Kilbrittanin Castle

Greetings, I am trying to find a web site or some information on Kilbrittain Castel. I have tried everything I can think of and no luck. I understand it's a B & B.

Thank you,

Eva,

Welcome to the forum. From what I understand Kilbrittain Castle used to be a B&B but is now under private ownership and not doing B&B at this time. To search for another castle to stay in click on IrelandYes Index and then on Castle Hotels. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Dia Duit Eva,

If it is a Castle stay in Co Cork that you are hunting, To be sure Castle Townshend is without peer. The Rates are quite reasonable for a Castle stay. The rooms are well furnished and the beds rae extremely comfortable. There are 7 bedrooms so its not like there will be an abundance of lodgers. All of the rooms are ensuite, which is another plus. THe breakfasts are phenomenal. I had no need for lunch and didn't really feel hungry until well onto dinner.

Castle Townshend is situated on Castletowshend Harbour and just outside a small village that also bears its name. Spend an evening at Egan Roney's Pub (my spelling may be off). It will be memorable. It is close to Skibereen, as well. I can't find my web link for it but Michele may have it here on her site.

Have a great adventure in Cork!

Thank you so much, I will start looking else where. Thanks again, I am so glad I found your site. I will be going to Ireland in the Fall for the first time and doing it on my own, I am sure there will be many questions to follow.

Eva,

Everyone here is delighted to help. If you do stay in Castletownshend I recommend Mary Ann's Pub. They have good food and the banoffee is excellent. http://www.westcorkweek.com/maryanns/

Michele!!!

I forgot about the Banoffee there, though I am not sure how! I wish I could twitch my nose and transport us all there for some, right now. Definitely Maryann's is a must. I certainly had a delightful evening at Egan Roney's (still not sure if my spelling is correct).

Cowboy,

I don't know the pub you mentioned. Some pubs have plaques saying they are recommended by Egon Ronay: http://www.egonronay.com/ Could that have been it?

I'm ready for a magic carpet ride to Mary Ann's any time.

Mary Ann's is a Egon Ronay listed pub. We'll be spending a week of self catering at Castletonwshend for my wife's 50th. It will be banoffee for her birthday.

Bill,

Great to hear from you again. You will have to order a whole banoffee pie for your wife's 50th! After all, you will have a fridge at your cottage. When are you going?

Eva,

Banoffe is a dessert that is very sweet. Ban=banana and offe=toffee. The pie usually has a crushed graham or cookie crust. It is filled with toffee, layered with sliced bananas and topped with whipped cream and sometimes chocolate drizzles. Once you taste a really good banoffe you will be addicted. I have had a few that were not up to snuff but the homemade ones are to die for. Mary Ann's does a good banoffee. I also had a fantastic one at Achill Cliff House Hotel in September.
