Spending Money In Ireland

I have never traveled outside of the U.S. before. I am not sure what form of money I should use.

1. Debit Card
2. USD $$
3. Euros
4. Travelers Checks

Which form of payment is accepted all over Ireland? What is the easiest, worry free way to travel with money?

I am staying for 9 days on a guided bus tour called the "Glimpse of Ireland". What is a reasonable amount of money tht will be needed for my wife and I to ensure a good time?

If you go to my "Money" & "Tips & Tricks" pages on my website (links on the bottom of this page) you will find most of the info you need.

Ireland uses the eruo. Using your ATM card for cash and credit cards/debit cards for larger purchases will generally provide your best exchange rates. You can take a small amount of traveler's checks in US dollars as a back up if you want. You probably won't use them but will have them in case of an emergency like the ATM eating your card or the strip on your credit card getting de-magnetized.

Assuming that tips, sightseeing admissions and most meals are paid for on your tour, you will need to buy things like lunches, snacks, personal items, wine & beer, phone calls, etc. It is customary to tip the driver/guide at the end of the trip. Your tour company can give you a daily estimate of those things. I'm sure your wife will be shopping and purchasing souvenirs but how much that will be is anyone's guess!

ATMs

When we went to Ireland we had never been to Europe before. I was so nervous about the money thing too, but i will tell you----there were ATMs everywhere....even in small towns....remember they charge you a little to take out money each time--so take out enough each time to make it worth it....and you don't have to worry about pick-pocketers or anything....my husband brought one of those belts but never used it. Just keep some in your pocket and some in your spouses pocket and maybe some in your suitcase. We did use our credit card but they charge you a fee as well. It was cheaper to use the ATM. I just made sure and called my bank to tell them i would be there and when. Make sure you also have a four digit pin.

I don't mean to try to sound like the expert - That's Michele...i was just scared of a few things that were unknown to us and wanted to re-assure you about the money thing.
