great idea for travelling samples

Ok, so I'm planning my trip to Ireland, and I leave October 2nd, cycling around for 5ish weeks. Now I'm not packing a lot, so I figure, hmmmm...maybe I'll just take sample size stuff. So one early early morning, I'm surfing Sephora's website, and the lightbulb goes on. "Hey, maybe I should start emailing companies for free samples to take with me!" You would not believe the stuff I've been getting for my trip. I was really surprised by the response, so I thought I'd pass on the companies who are more than willing to send samples.

So far, I've recieved stuff from Boscia (very generous, and after my thank you email to them, was told if I need anything else, just let them know), Mor cosmetics, Lise Watier, Terranova, Marc Jacobs, Floris, Paula's Choice (also very generous), Hierbas de Ibiza Perfumes (they actually sent me perfume samples to Canada from Spain), DHC Skincare, Miller Harris, Maven Cosmetics (they only have foundation samples, but they're bottled, so you can reuse them without leakage)...

...and I've received emails from these companies saying they'd love to send me stuff, and it's on the way...Duwop (the lip venom guys), beautymatters (they're a vancouver based company), bodytime, Kenra Hair, Penhaligons, & Goldwell Hair.

Now you could probably just google them to get their websites, or ask me for more info on it. I sent out a lot of emails, and received a lot of rejections, saying "sorry, we don't send samples out" and a couple companies actually said "we don't normally do that, but your trip sounds like so much fun that we'll do it for you." I've got a great bag of goodies now, so I can fit my 2nd pair of jeans in my bag, and have room to buy a pair of shoes once I get near the end of my trip and have thrown most of the samples out.

Hope this helps!

samples

Sounds great. I hope they don't bombard you forever though w/ emails and junk mail.

boobyis,

Excellent idea. I always buy those tiny travel sized items at Wal Mart but they tend to be expensive. I will try it for my next trip.

Irisheyes,

You could set up an email account at hotmail or another just for the samples. Then if they send too many emails, who cares?

Exactly. I use my hotmail account, and I just set it to Exclusive, so that only people in my contacts or on my safe list actually make it into my inbox. When I send out the emails, I just keep an eye on my junk mail. But it's like Christmas at my house with all the samples. And they send the little envelopey packagey things, so that they're good for just one use. It's perfect!
