Donegal info needed

We are looking for information on best sights, stays, and scenery in Donegal.

would like to spend 1 night southern area (Ballyshannon or Donegal town) and 2 nights further north (Letterkenney).  One day we are planning on daytripping to Derry and Giant's Causeway.  Other day possibly Slieve League, Glencolumbkille, and Glenveagh Park and Castle.  Wasn't sure how doable this was or if alternative route would be nicer.

would love to hear about nice B&B's or small hotels within walking distance to pubs/music/food.

thanks for the input!

A few years ago I did a bike tour of Donegal, and visited each place you mention except Giant's Causeway.  I don't have any real tips, except to say that Donegal is beautiful and I don't think you'll be disappointed.  I recommend the road from Glencolumkille to Ardara over a high pass (forget the name), and the route from Ardara to Glenveigh Park that goes through a place called (I think) Finntown, or something like that.  It is wild and beautiful.  All along the Donegal coast there are beautiful headlands and cliffs.

P.S.  Michelle, I have registered on this site, but now when I try to log-in, I get a message that says my registration is pending, and I can't make a new one.  Any way to solve this problem?

Donegal is absolutely beautiful. I think I could spend weeks there and be happy. We spent a few days in Ardara as a base. Our favorites: Glengesh pass views, water fall right out of Ardara (it was just such an incredibly pleasant surprise), Slieve League (wow, wow, wow...drive to the upper car park!), Silver Strand (possibly the most beautiful beach of the entire trip...and we just happened upon it), Nalin beach (I think that's what it was called), and this little spot called Bonnie Glen, near the Nalin and Portnoo beaches. It was just the most serene spot we found on our trip. Again, we just happened upon it.

We did go to Glenveigh, but we weren't particularly impressed by it. We also spent an evening in Donegal Town. Pleasant, but not as wonderful as our time further west. We didn't make it to the far north of Donegal, which just means we'll have to return some day.

If you are looking for a great place for lunch. I would highly recommend the Blueberry Cafe. It's in the Diamond district in Donegal Town. Just a wonderful meal !

I stayed at Island View, but while it's close to the town center, it's not really walking distance.  If you have a car, it's a great choice.  Very clean and good breakfast.

For lunch, I recommend the Krusty Kitchen.  It's very popular and for good reason.

I took the Donegal Waterbus tour and was disappointed.  I only stayed in Donegal one night, will have to go back another time.

Have a great trip!

I would recommend Glenrowan in Letterkenny. A word about being within walking distance of any town. Many times the places that are close in to town are older places that are not as nice or up to date as B&Bs just a bit farther out (though there are always exceptions). The option is always yours as to whether you will trade close town access for lesser accommodations. One way around the drinking and driving problem is to spend a few euro to take a cab into town and then back to your suburban B&B.
