castle hotels and public transportation

My siblings and I are sending my parents to Ireland as a Christmas presents.  They will be traveling in March or April and taking public transportation.  I am hoping to treat them to a castle stay.  Can anyone suggest which castles are easy to get to by train or bus?  I don't know where they will be going but I figure if I am offering to pay, the itinerary will work around the castle.

My husband and I stayed at Dromoland and really enjoyed it.  I also looked at staying at Glin Castle.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Aimee

Aimee,

Take a look at my Castle Hotels page. Most would require a taxi ride after getting either the train or bus since they don't tend to be in the middle of the cities but outside of them. Certainly Dromoland, Ashford, Waterford, etc. are excellent places to stay. But do look at the various websites to see what appeals to you.

Thanks.  I figured some sort of taxi was involved but I didn't know if one was easier that others.

My husband and I stayed at Dromoland and it was very nice but Glin really intrigued me since it seems to be a little more intimate.  The people from Glin have been helpful with travel plans.  Of course, I am open to other suggestions.
