Is Roscommona good "in between"?

I'm trying to find a good place to stay for a few days after Dublin but before Galway. Is Roscommon a somewhat half-way point? If so, are there any particular areas of interest? If not, can anyone suggest a good midpoint?

miscalito,

How about Athlone? It is exactly halfway between Dublin and Galway. Nearby is Clonmacnoise Monastic Site and the Clonmacnoise & West Offaly Railway. In the area are Athlone Castle, Belvedere House & Gardens, Birr Castle Gardens. Enough to keep you busy for a couple of days. Take a look at this website for more: http://www.elyocarroll.com/
