Accommodations in Dublin

Hello,

I am new to the forum. I am planning a trip for 2 couples for just under 3 weeks and am feeling very overwhelmed with all the choices. We arrive in Dublin late Aug, next year.

I have decided to do it in tiny bites and move along as I plan the itinerary. So far I have spent 3 weeks on just trying to figure out where to stay in Dublin so can't say this is working out for me. confuse

I do have Michele's book, and it has a ton of great info, but am finding it confusing as I don't know where the counties are. I do have a map of Ireland coming from the Tourist Board so hopefully that will help.

Meanwhile I would like to at least nail down  where to stay in Dublin. We are going to be there 3 nights, the day we arrive and 2 full days for sightseeing. In Michele's book it lists Swords and Malahide, but near as I can tell this is not central to touring. Where is the best place to stay to sight see in Dublin and not have a car? (read that you don't want a car there)

We are open to all accommodation suggestions but would like to keep the costs at least moderate. (We are early 60's to early 70's in age.)

Welcome to the forum. I will assume you have the 2013 edition of my book. If so, you will find a map of counties on page 31. I also have a list of recommended hotels in Dublin on pages 252 & 253. Last time I stayed at the Ashling Hotel and really liked it. Although it is on the edge of Dublin City (near Phoenix Park & Guinness) the LUAS tram line and hopper bus runs right in front of it. You will have to walk across the street for the bus stop and parallel down the street to the LUAS stop. Also look at the O'Callaghan group of hotels. If you need something cheaper try Jury's Inn Christchurch, which is basic and currently undergoing renovations so not all rooms are updated.

Michele,
Thanks for your info on where to find the listings in the 2013 book, which is the one I just ordered. I will check out your suggestions.
I am sure I will have more questions for you before I am done! :)

one of my favorite places to stay is Eliza Lodge. It is a small boutique style, budget friendly, on the edge of temple bar.

Maybe try homeaway.com. We rented a 2 bed 2 bath flat on Bachelor's Walk right on the River Liffey last fall. Reasonable price. Airport bus stops right outside. Most everything in Dublin within walking distance. Lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. Not sure though about shorter rentals - we stayed in Dublin 8 days.

Hope this is not too late to help. Just found this site!
