County Cavan

We started the discussions for another trip to Ireland!  It will be my sixth trip and I wish we were leaving tomorrow.  Unfortunately we have to wait until the fall of 2015 but that gives us lots of time for conversations and making plans.  So Michele I will be all over your website for the next 18 months.

One spot we are definitely returning to is Virginia in County Cavan.  We took a chance on a B&B last time and it quickly became our favorite.  St Kyrans is the best place I have ever stayed.  Beautiful rooms, delicious food and Patrick and Helena became friends.  So we want to return and we want to stay for maybe 3 nights.

However I am not very familiar with that part of Ireland.  Has anyone traveled in that area?  Im looking for suggestions of day trips.  Virginia looked like a nice little town and I seem to remember a theater is there anything else there that might be interesting?  There will be four of us all women in our 60s.  Three of us have been to Ireland before.  We like sightseeing and history.  But what we like most about Ireland is visiting with the people.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

I stayed at St. Kyran's myself last year and I agree that it was wonderful. The dinner there was lovely. This is probably the theater you are speaking of Ramore Theater. In the vicinity:

Cavan County Museum

Deerpark Forest Walks

Killinkere Farm

Causey Farm

Loughcrew Cairns

Loughcrew Gardens

Killykeen Forest Park

Museum of the Master Saddler

Fore Monastic Site

Co. Meath is not far away and you could do some day trips there.

Thanks for the suggestions Michele.  We will look into those as our planning progresses.  Some of them look really interesting and right up our alley.

I'm glad you liked St Kyran's too.  We consider that place a great find.

Thanks again for your help.  I'm sure I'll be back in the coming months with more questions
