Winter trip by bus

Hi everyone. My wife and I are planning a new trip to Ireland from 24th of January till 3rd of February. Unfortunately we can't change the dates.

We are planning the following itinerary. Although we had a wonderful time driving on the left, this time we'll be traveling by bus (or train).

DAY              PLACE                                                       We'll be visiting

FRI   23         Fly to Dublin (from Buenos Aires)

SAT  24         Arrive in Dublin (Dublin)                             Bus to Galway from the airport

SUN 25         Galway (Galway)                                       Visit to Knock Village  (a religious visit)

MON 26        Galway (Galway)                                       SightSeeing Galway

TUE   27       Galway --> Killarney (Killarney)                 SightSeeing Killarney

WED 28        Killarney (Killarney)                                   Ring of Kerry

THU  29        Killarney --> Cork (Cork)                           SightSeeing Cork

FRI   30        Cork (Cork)                                               Visit to Cobh and Middleton

SAT  31        Cork (Cork)                                               SightSeeing Cork

SUN  01        Cork --> Dublin (Dublin)                           SightSeeing Dublin

MON 02        Dublin (Dublin)                                         SightSeeing Dublin

TUE  03        Flight out (to Liverpool)

Should we take a train instead of bus in some part? We know the bus is cheaper but we can take a train if it is worth it.

The only place we have been before (in this itinerary) is Dublin, so any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you very much !!!

Regards, Marcelo.

Marcelo,

How great that you and your wife are visiting Ireland together. You already know that winter is not ideal and days are short but that will give you more cozy pub time. Plus you can be romantic and cuddle up in front of a roaring turf fire in many different places.

You could take trains from Killarney to Cork to Dublin. Take a look at the various schedules and prices to see if it is worthwhile for you.

Personally, I would pull a day from Cork and add it to Killarney. That would give you 3 in Killarney and 2 in Cork. Let's see what the rest of the forum members think of that idea.

Michele,
Thanks for your tips (as always). I know the days are short in winter but this time or we take this chance or miss it at all. So we prefer going to Ireland in winter !!! I will think about staying in Killarney a little longer as you suggested.

Thanks again.
Marcelo.

Travel from Dublin airport to Galway, an Express Bus is probably your quickest and cheapest choice.

www.transportforireland.ie

Galway to Killarney could be by either train OR bus, but bus is probably quicker.

Killarney to Cork can be by either.  Likewise, there are trains from Cork Kent to Midelton and Cobh.

Train OR bus to Dublin.    http://www.irishrail.ie/          http://www.buseireann.ie/

If you buy your Train tickets online (up to 28 days in advance) there are substantial discounts.

Happy planning!
