Trip in May 2016

Hello Michele and all,

It has been a few years since my wife and I had a trip to Ireland. We are finally going in May for 4 weeks (10th trip I think). We will be traveling from Canada (Toronto). When booking the flight I was pleased to see that there are more Airlines flying into Ireland than there were a few years ago. The bad news is none flies into Shannon. We are not going to cover as much ground as some previous trips but will return to some favourite locales. The only accommodation I have booked so far is the Shelbourne Townhouse in Kenmare for 2 weeks. In keeping with my new intention of a slower pace we will spend the day of arrival in Dublin area - maybe Naas or Kildare town then spend another night en route to Kenmare - leisurely pace. I would appreciate any suggestions for a spot - reasonable hotel or guesthouse etc. - approximately halfway to Kenmare. I don't care what route I take to the West but we do enjoy stays in villages or small towns rather than the countryside.

It feels good to return to the forum and makes me even more enthusiastic about our trip. I am sure I will have more questions and I may even be able to contribute some advice.

Happy New Year to All

Great to hear you are planning another trip to Ireland. It is addictive, isn't it?

I've had my eye on Shelbourne Townhouse. Great location. You will have to let us know how you like it when you return.

How about Cashel for an overnight? Joy's Rockside House and Bailey's are both in town. Aulber House is a bit outside town. Any of them would be good.

Thank you very much Michele for the suggestions. Bailey's looks like a very good choice.

I think you will enjoy Cashel. It is a small town and very walkable. Baileys is very nice (they even have a lift) and has good food.

We stayed at Baileys last March and liked it very much. Easy walking distance to the Rock of Cashel and they gave us vouchers for a free tour- an unexpected bonus. Had a nice pub and restaurant.
