10 day itinerary help please

Mature couple...first time in Ireland.

Arriving Shannon 5/30 7:00 am...leaving Dublin 6/9 7:55 am...so I guess we should stay AT the airport the night before :)

I've changed the scope several times...been reading forums and looking at guide books & maps.

Have not yet booked car or accommodations.

I would really like to try for 2-3 night stays in different areas with up to 3-4 hours driving between.

B&Bs & maybe a castle but on a moderate budget.

I love charming towns and amazing vistas.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi Welcome. A basic 3 base itinerary for 10 days might be something like

30/31st May/1st June. Galway area.

2nd June Castle stay, Dromoland or Ballyseede or just an overnight to split Galway and Kerry.

3/4/5 June Killarney area.

6/7/8th June Dublin. Shouldn't be a problem getting to DUB from the city for an early morning flight.

If you could live with more locations for shorter stays then you could fit time into places like Cork and Kilkenny. Staying the night at Dromoland or better Ballyseede you could drive the Dingle figure of eight on the drop to Killarney or Kenmare as Kerry touring base's

Generally first-time visitors to Ireland want to hit the high tourist spots with some charm thrown in on the side. Most castle hotels are pricey but Tony's suggestion of Ballyseede is one of the lower priced ones. It is not too far from Killarney toward Tralee. Some small towns that I consider charming would be Kenmare, Adare, Dingle, Kinsale, Cobh. Some of those can be "touristy" on weekends especially Dingle and Kinsale.

To speed up getting to Dublin Airport in the early morning from the city pre-order a taxi the night before. It might cost a little more than the bus but it will make it quicker and easier.
