Well i bit the bullet. Made my car rental.

Probably paid too much. Was just tired of the merry go round. Now, I'll just be merry.

EasyTourIreland. Was going to check with Dooley's but they said they were booked for the car and the dates (online and may have waited too long- i just
took that as a sign + felt like i couldn't wait any longer). I like the no hidden fee deal, no deductible. Unl miles, can take it to northern Ireland. I got the regular and super insurance. Still think that should include tire and wheel damage. Only reason there would be is because of their roads right? Just seems that should be included anyway. I'm sure there are probable more tire issues than anything and that's why it's not included. Theft coverage, personal insurance coverage. No holds on your credit card, no deductibles. Transaction not so smooth. Kept telling me online that i needed to use alpha letters only while filling out personal info form and giving credit card info. Had to call. Guy on phone was nice enough but kind of kept getting off the subject of the rental and when he sent me confirmation email, it started off with hello Sheila?? I responded Sheila?? About an hour later he sent another confirmation with my proper name and an apology. Said right after he talked to me Sheila called while he was sending my email. 11 days, £356. Does this seem outrageous? Can I cancel any of the stuff I've mentioned. Any suggestions as to what you guys would cancel if I can?

Didn't get the gps. However i think that would be nice. I don't have a smart phone. Thinking of buying a tablet. Right now all i have is a standard text and call unlocked that i bought as suggested on here. Not really sure how to use that. Want it to call ahead to my reservations at least and emergencies and keeping in touch with my Dad while we're there. (He's there on business so I'll be exploring on my own at least half the time). Any tips on using the unlocked blu phone i got would be appreciated. Like where to get a sims card for Emerald Isle once I land. Thanks.

If you just want a SIM for talk and text you can buy one at the Airport:   http://www.blogface.org/2013/08/buying-sim-card-in-ireland-from-dublin.html

Tesco generally has the best deals.  They are stand-alone stores, similar to small Walmarts.  See: http://www.tesco.com/store-locator/ie/#li2

The Drogheda Extra store,  DONORE ROAD MATTHEWS LANE DROGHEDA (Just off the M1 at Junction (Exit) 9 )  is PROBABLY your first/best Tesco option heading North.

Glad to hear you have your car rental squared away. Just continue forward and don't look back. You are over what veteran travelers to Ireland call the worst part of planning. Now go and have a wonderful time.

That seems like a decent deal in Euros. Not quite as good if it is in Pounds Sterling (GBP).

356 Euro is just over $400.

356 GBP is close to $515.

If I was shopping for Full Coverage, I would NOT be horribly displeased with the Euro price.  I think my sample quote from Dooley (on the Car Hire Sticky Page) was a bit less, though.

Tourists running into and along curbs is usually listed as the reason for excluding tire coverage.  Truth is, it's USUALLY pot holes.  furious

So, am I correct when i get to the car rental desk for payment after i check my car back, I should request they charge it in euros, correct? Before handing
over my cc. to avoid the dynamic conversion. Correct?

I will stop in at the drogheda store to get my sims. Are they just generally plug and dial? Have never used one.

Thanks Bob and Michele. It's getting close! I'm heading to chicago wed. night. Fly out thurs about 1pm to New Jersey. Leave there approx. 730 and arrive in Dublin approx. 7am. Getting excited.

Not sure why they quoted you in pound sterling. I believe you can buy additional tire/windshield coverage at the desk. The free GPS deal has expired.

Sorry, i meant euros. Hit wrong key. 356.
Tire insurance starting at $4 a day. Not sure by what they mean starting. I'm guessing starting at just the tire, and then adding the rim, then the tie rods and then the axle. Could end up doubling my expenses. Really should be included I think. Or fix the potholes! I deal with the same issue (potholes) where i live in michigan. Like a confounded minefield it is. A war zone.

I'm guessing most of the tourists running into and over curbs probably do the same where they're from. Just on the other side of the road :)
Many have no business driving period. Hope I won't be one of them in Ireland.

I suggest taking a video of the car before and after. Concentrate on the lower front end, tires and any dents or scratches. I've never had to use but I know folks who have.
