April 2018 Itinerary...Will it be too much????

Surprising my husband for our anniversary.  I have planned an itinerary but am open to suggestions

Day 1-Arrive in Dublin pick up car and drive to Kilkenny (staying at the Butler House)

Day 2 See Rock of Cashel , Muckross House  Stay in Killarney (Killaran House B&B)

Day 3 Drive to Dingle Spend 2 night there (Castlewood B&B)

Day 4 Dingle

Day 5 See the Cliffs on our way to Galway Stay in Galway (Can we see Bunratty as well?)

Day 6 Galway...see Ashford Castle  Connemara Region

Day 7 Drive to Dublin...Explore Dublin

Day 8 Flight Home

Is this doable???  Help!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming anniversary.

Your plan is what I call a "green blur tour of Ireland". Can you do it? Yes. But do you want to do it? Depends on the type of traveler you are. If you want to do more than drive from place to place spending a lot of time in the car with a few sightseeing stops, you should consider slowing the pace a bit. In Ireland less is more. I realize that when you look at a map of Ireland it looks like a tiny country but it is so rich in history, landscapes and sightseeing options you could easily spend a month in each area and not see it all.

Tell us what you want to accomplish with your trip. Is it for a quick overview to check things off your list? Or do you prefer to see less and enjoy what you do see more?

We are happy to help you fine-tune your trip. Just give us a little more info.

Hi All!

I do understand that this would be a lot of driving. We are not into seeing a lot of the touristy attractions. We love to explore towns for great food and maybe some great music with some locals. I want to take my husband fishing in Dingle for sure! We definitely want to see the Cliffs and my only must do is Ashford Castle to do the Hawk walk. I thought spending 2 nights in Dingle and 2 nights in Galway would give us a"green blur" break

How would you modify it? This is by no means a definite plan. Just the first draft :)

Thanks for any input!

What type of fishing does your husband want to do? Did you know that there are places all over Ireland that do falconry? Not just Ashford Castle. Are you planning on staying at the castle? One though is drive directly to Galway on arrival day - or you could take the bus or train there and rent a car next day. 2 nights in Galway, 2 in Dingle, 2 in Killarney or Kenmare and one in Dublin. Too bad you can't fly into and out of Shannon instead.

A lot would depend on what you want to do from the Bases? Killarney for 1 night and Dingle for 2? Killarney is a base for a whole lot more than Dingle and personally I would have 2 nights in Killarney then drive the Dingle figure of eight heading north to a night in or between Adare & Ennis. That breaks the run to Galway and gives a full day for some of County Clare. so Bunratty and the Cliffs plus a little more?
