20 Days mostly in the Northwest

Looking for help/suggestions with my itinerary. We've been to Ireland before but everything after Clifden will be new to us. I've thrown in more things than we will have time to do but want to have things listed just in case.

Our plan now is that this will be our last longish trip and from here on we will go every year for just a week staying in one place.  Anything we miss or don't devote enough time to this trip we can catch up on later, hopefully.

The towns listed at the end of each day is where we plan to spend the night.

Thursday, May 17 - arrive Shannon 10:05am, drive to Kilfenora, Burren Centre, Ballyvaughn

Friday, May 18 - Burren hike, Gleninsheen Wedge Tomb, Poulnabrone Dolmen,Caherconnell Stone Fort, Cahermacnaghten ring fort,Rathborney Church and Graveyard, Ballyvaughn

Saturday, May 19 - Drive to Cong stop at Corcomroe Abbey, Cong Abbey, take a hike, Pigeon Hole, Joyce Country sheepdogs, Aughnanure Castle,Oughterard

Thursday, May 31 - Glenveagh Park, Errigal Mountain, Dunfanaghy

Frday, June 1 - Horn Head, Ards Forest Park, Doe Castle, Atlantic Drive, Fanad Head, Great Pollet Sea Arch, Dunfanaghy

Saturday, June 2 - Drive to Buncrana, stopping at Colmcille Center, Grianan of Aileach, Buncrana

Sunday, June 3 - Fort Dunree, Glenevin Waterfall, Carrickabraghy Castle, Malin Head, Buncrana

Monday, June 4

Tuesday, June 5 - Drive to airport, geocaching as we go, spend night nearby

It sounds like a well-planned trip with multiple-night stays. If you get a nice day you might want to add Gleniff Horseshoe Drive to your Sligo stay. It is north of Sligo signposted on the main Donegal road.

Have you thought of breaking up the trip from Buncrana to Dublin with one overnight? On the drive you could easily stop to see the Ulster American Folk Park, which would take a good part of the day. If you did that you could overnight in Omagh or Enniskillen.

Thanks for the help.  Breaking the drive up sounds like a good idea and both the folk park and Enniskillen sound good. Thanks also for the suggestion for the Gleniff Horseshoe drive.

I use your book like a bible for B&Bs to stay at.  Do you happen to have any suggestions for Buncrana or Dunfanaghy?

I don't have recs for Buncrana or Dunfanaghy but might have some later next year. Probably too late for your trip. Perhaps Bob does. If you do Gleniff you could combine it with a trip to Glencar Waterfall.

Sadly, I've never stayed in either.  hmm  hmm

I've driven through Buncrana, but we stayed in Greencastle on that trip.  cry  cry

I've NOT been to Dunfanaghy, at all.  It (and the general area) are on my radar for when I finally head over to Tory Island, though.  biggrin
