Planning a trip for June '19.

Hi Michele, I was planning a trip to Ireland several years ago, but had to cancel at the last minute. So I am hoping to travel there in June 2019. I know it's a bit early to make solid plans, but was wanting some preliminary advice please.

My plan is to fly into either Dublin or Shannon and fly home from the other city. I am wanting to attend the medieval show at Bunratty Castle either at the beginning or end of my trip. Michele, which part of the trip do you think that you would choose for the show?

Secondly, I'm not sure if I want to focus on the West coast or or more central part of the country (Kilkenny for 2 days maybe?). The Waterford area looks appealing to me also. I would like to spend 2 nights at a castle hotel - so far, I like the looks of Clontarf Castle, outside of Dublin. Michele do you have any familiarity with this place?

Would appreciate your ideas about a possible itinerary, even a rough draft would be great. Thanks Michele. I look forward to your reply. ( My trip will last 10 days, with first and last days being travel days).

Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you are re-planning a trip. If you planned on the banquet on arrival night you might be too tired to enjoy it. Later in the trip might be better.

I have not been to Clontarf Castle although it gets good ratings. Since Waterford is a draw take a look at Waterford Castle. I have toured it and the island estate and would recommend it.

From the info you have given so far and since you will really only have 8 days to explore, perhaps you should think about in and out of Dublin and save the west and Bunratty for another visit.

Thanks Michele. Do you know of any castles closer to Dublin that host medieval dinner shows?

No. There are a couple that host groups. But unless you hav 30 - 50 people you want to book, you are looking at the west.
