I was in Ireland a few years back with my mom (on a tour). We did the knappague banquet and quite enjoyed it. I'm now going back with my husband and parents. My mom thinks the guys would like the medieval banquet so, which to choose? I would have prefered to stay in Kinvara and do the Dunguaire banquet but after reading the forums, I get the idea that it's not quite as rip roaring as Knappague or bunratty. Knappague had little skits, Irish music and the set dancers. I believe Bunratty has the same but I take it Dunguaire does not. If she liked Knappague, would she be disappointed in Dunguaire?
Each of the three Castle Banquets focuses on a different aspects of Irish Culture. Knappogue Castle focuses more on the women of Irish lore and song. Bunratty's entertainment focuses on Irish and Medieaval folk songs. Dunguaire takes you on a delightful journey through the literary moments of Ireland's music, song, poems, and prose reading with some humourous scenes from Irish literature. There is also the Corn Barn at Bunratty Folk Park, which is less formal and is more closely modeled after a trad session or ceili in a small Irish village.
I would let them read a description of each and then make the choice as a group. Any of them would be a pleasant way to pass an evening.
Dunguaire is much smaller and intimate. I enjoyed it very much because of that and not having to fight with the crowds that are always present at the other castle banquets. The entertainment was very good but no dancing. Bunratty Castle's banquet might fit the bill, however no dancing. Lots of good music and singing. If you want dancing then the Irish Night ceili might fit the bill. However, it is not in the castle but in the corn barn at Bunratty.
