What to do with a FREE day?

AFter several weeks of planning, here's our intinerary:

Monday: arrive in Dublin @ 1pm (from London) get car and head out to Kilkenny. Night in Kilkenny

Tuesday:  Full day in Kilkenny (maybe jerpoint abbey) Kilkenny castle,
               night in Kilkenny

Weds:       Head to Kenmare.  See Rock of Cashel on the way, maybe see
Cahir Castle.  Avoid Cork city.  Travel to Kenmare via>Fermoy>

                Mallow>Blarney>Macroom>Kenmare.  Overnight in Kenmare

Thurs:       Day in Kenmare.  Maybe head to Glengarriff. Night in Kenmare

Fri:            Travel to Dingle via Killarney.  Ladies View, Moll's Gap, perhpas
                 Muckross House.  Night in Dingle

Sat:           Slea Head Drive, Dingle town, night in Dingle

Sun:          Travel to County clare via Talbert ferry.  See Cliffs of Moher.
                 Overnight ????

Mon:           Stay somewhere near Shannon.  OVERNIGHT  ???

Tue:             Flight home via shannon airport.

I'm still pondering about  where to stay Sunday night.  Ballyvaughn? Kinvara? Somewhere else?  On Monday,  I would like to head towards Shannon airport.   This would give us all day Monday to do something/see something?   Anyone with suggestions for this Monday?  It would be nice to be not farther than 30-40 minutes from Shannon on Monday night.

Irish 57,

Your itinerary looks fine. For Sunday the whole coast of Clare is available to you. What are you looking for in an overnight destination? Most of the towns are small. Doolin, Ballyvaughan and Kinvara are all good choices.

I generally recommend Bunratty for a last night near Shannon. It is only a 10-15 minute drive to the airport. On Monday there are lots of different things you could do. Have you abandoned your plan to see Cong? What are you most interested in?

Michele:

once again, many thanks to you and all you have contributed to this forum.  Without your help my trip to Ireland would have been a blur! :)

I thought we'd spend the night in Ballyvaughn on Sunday. As for Monday night it will deffinately be in either Bunratty or Quin.  Haven't decided and am open to suggestions.

That would give us all day Monday to explore SOMETHING!  I really don't want to give up cong and that region but perhaps it would be too much driving.  We'd leave Monday to see Cong and then head back to bunratty for Monday night's stay.  By the way, we'll be doing the traditional irish night in Bunratty (instead of the banquet).  Too much driving here????

If driving to cong is too much for that Monday, than we could just take our time driving to bunratty.  Any suggestions for a sidetrip here?  PS, we'll be seeing the cliffs on Sunday as we come up from Dingle.

Irish 57,

Why not make the decision when you are in Ireland? If you don't feel like a long drive skip it and do something else. The visit to Cong will break up the day and give you time for exploring the village, abbey and perhaps Ashford Castle. There are a couple of nice little restaurants in town for lunch.

If you decide to skip Cong there are plenty of other things to see in Clare:

Quin Abbey
Craggaunowen Project
Knappogue Castle & Gardens
Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
King John's Castle (Limerick)
St. Mary's Cathedral  (Limerick)
The Hunt Museum  (Limerick)
