My fiance and I (Americans) are thinking of getting married in Ireland, this May of '07 and spending a total of 3 weeks there. Can you give me some links for the legal issues of marrying there. I really do not want to get married in a "courthouse" in any country. Also what is the weather like there in May, AND, do you have any info on tracking down distant relatives (my great grandfather came from Ireland).
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your upcoming marriage. Ireland has some strict residency requirements. Look at the following site: http://www.groireland.ie/getting_married.htm
For weather go to my "Weather" page. You can click on any link around the map to see the history of weather for any year or month. But generally May is cool. It can be wet, sunny or anything in between.
For ancestor research look at my "Links" page where I have recommendations.
Go mbeannaí Dia is Muire duit (May God & Mary Bless you) in your marriage. It would do you well to order the Sept/Oct issue of Ireland of the Welcomes. www.irelandofthewelcomes.com. There is a very thorough article on weddings and honeymoons in Ireland in that Issue. I bought several copies when it came out and gave them to frienda who were wanting the ideal Irish wedding.
It would depend on where your great grandfather originated from in Ireland. Most of the counties have their own genealogical center. Michele has some great links here, as well.
