Ireland in March... Some questions

Hello!  I am taking my fiance to Ireland for our honeymoon from March 12-18.  We plan on staying at a B & B in Dingle for our time there.  I just saw that St. Patrick's day is on the 17th and am rethinking our plans.  I thought to fly into Cork or Shannon, but am now considering Dublin.  If we flew into Dublin we would drive to Dingle on the first day(unless there was a good halfway point to spend the night and explore!).  The plan would be to return to Dublin the morning of St. Patricks day and enjoy the festivities.  We would spend the night there and flyout out on the 18th.  How feasable is this?  Is it so crowded that it would be hard to find our way around?  I have never driven in Ireland and am not sure how hard it would be to find a place to stay on the 17th.  Any advice?  Thanks!

James,

Congrats on your upcoming marriage and welcome to the forum! Dublin on St. Patrick's Day is full to bursting at the seams. If you are interested in being there I suggest you first look to see if any accommodations are available. They may be full up at this point. Whatever you do, do not drive in Dublin especially on St. Patrick's Day. Many roads will be barricaded and traffic will be at a standstill.

If you still decide on St. Patrick's Day in Dublin, consider flying into Shannon and out of Dublin. It is a much shorter drive from Shannon to Dingle. I also suggest you budget an overnight stay for halfway between Dingle and Dublin. It is a very long drive.

Thanks for your response! After reading this I think we are going to steer clear of Dublin.  The plan is to fly in and out of Cork.  4 nights in Dingle and the last night in Cork.  The flight out is at 7:30 am.  With how early we would need to be at the airport, is it considered "rude" to stay at a B and B?  I imagine we would need to get to the airport around 4 to have time to turn in the car and get checked in.

James,

You may want to spend your last night at a hotel near the airport. On arrival check at the information desk to find out what time the airport opens in the morning. Ask your airline, but probably arriving by 5-5:30 would be fine. There won't be that many people there then. Check out this hotel: http://tinyurl.com/229qhg
