Hi, We're traveling from Denver to Shannon in April. We're traveling on British airways to Heathtrow, then Aer Lingus to Shannon. We think we arrive at terminal 4 in Heathrow, then depart terminal 1 to Shannon. We have 3.25hrs. between flights... does anyone know if that's enough time? and if Aer lingus allows check in luggage. Thanks
3.25 hrs is more then enough. Just follow the signs for the in-transit bus between terminals (you do not need to reclear the outer security although their is in-transit security). The walk in terminal 1 is extremely long. Aer lingus is the last gates and two sattelite terminals over. That said it usually takes me about 45 - 60 minutes. As of Apr 1, Aer Lingus is leaving the One World alliance which BA is apart of. BA should still be able to check your bags all the way through to Shannon since they probably still will have an interline baggage aggreement
I used to travel through Heathrow all the time and as Irrover has said you do have enough time for your connection. He kindly added even more info to speed you through the airport. If you follow his advice you will be fine.
Michele
P.S. Irrover: Thanks for the additional info for Deb. Lately I have been taking direct flights to and from Ireland and avoid Heathrow whenever I can. The direct flights make for a much shorter trip.
I "lurk" on Michele's excellent website, and caught your reply to Deb. Himself and I are going to Ireland for 4 weeks in May/June, and 5 days in London, so we always fly into LHR first. I was also concerned about the baggage and if it will be checked through to Dublin. We are also flying BritAir and Aer Lingus. Brit Air rep told me to be sure to ask, when checking in at SeaTac (our departure city), to check luggage straight through to Dublin. Hopefully, that will be the case. Sounds like they might do it?
Also, we arrive LHR 11:45, and leave 14:25. Guess that is enough time, in case we have to reclaim our luggage and check in again at Aer Lingus?
Thanks, Michele, for giving me the opportunity to ask irriver questions!
All lurkers and questions welcome! I think that 2 1/2 hours in LHR for a connection is doable. You will have to move right along though and don't dawdle. If the buses linking the terminals are full you can also walk through the underground tunnels but it is quite a hike! Whenever I do that I feel like a mouse in a maze and want a chunk of cheese as a reward when I finish. Michele
