We will be traveling to Ireland Aprl 6 through the 15th. I thought I would put down what I have so far for our trip to see if anyone can help fill in lodging and give advice.
April 5th Leave LAX -> Atlanta -> Dublin (Arriving the 6th)
April 6 Rent A Car Dublin Airport -> Gledolough. We are still looking for accomodations in this area. But plan to drive to Glendologh, find our place, freshen up, and then go out and look around Gledolouhg, maybe Avondale House, maybe Powerscourt.
April 7 Drive to Cashel., Visit Rock of Cashil, Cahir Castle, We are also looking for a place to stay here. Thinking about Carrigeen Castle. Although looking at Joy's Rockside House and Dualla House. Apr 8 Drive to Blarney, visit castle, kiss rock . Travel on to Kenmare. We have accomodations at Sallyport B&B
Apr 9, Ring of Kerry Apr 10 Kilarney National Forest Apr 11 Dingle Penninsula, find a place around Tralee or Adare Looking at Meadowlands (Tralee) or Fitzgerald Woodlands Inn (Adare) Apr 12 Back to Dublin. Stay at the Davenport Hotel. Apr 15 Leave Home
I am trying to figure out if Apr 11, getting to Dingle Town from Kenmare, and then driving a bit around and then getting to Adare will be just too much. I figure it will be about 5 to 6 hours driving just getting around, so a very busy day, but then makes the next day to Dublin easier.
Any comments or advise you could give us, especially on accomodations would be great. Any advise on what to see at the various locations would also be great help.
Welcome to my forum! Your itinerary is doable. Although it is too bad you can't depart from Shannon as it would cut down on the driving on your last full day in Ireland.
I suggest taking a look at my "Lodgings" page for a list of good places to stay. Click on IrelandYes Index and then on Lodgings. I have recommendations for all the places you are going.
Carrigeen Castle has mixed reviews. Some people like it and others don't. You can't go wrong at either Joy's Rockside or Dualla House. Both are very good B&Bs. Sallyport is gorgeous and an excellent choice.
Since you are going to have a long drive back to Dublin whatever choices you make, I think on the 11th you should not short change Dingle. As one of Ireland's most scenic areas you should give it more time. It is not a place for a quick drive through. Instead get an early start from Kenmare for Dingle. Be sure to do the Slea Head Drive as it is the most scenic part of the peninsula. End your day at The Shores Country House in Castlegregory on the north shore of the peninsula. It is not all that far from Tralee. The Shores is one of Ireland's best B&Bs, so make your reservations ASAP! If you like fine dining Annette is a talented chef and cooks wonderful dinners for her guests on weeknights. Dinner must be booked in advance. It would be the perfect ending to a long day to arrive at The Shores and just relax.
