West Ireland in April

Just trying to fine tune my plans for next month. It will be me ,my wife , and two young children ( ages 5 & 8 ).  I'll be near Killarney for my first 5 days from March 29th through the 3rd of April. We will be with a large group. All hotel and activities are already taken care of.  My questions concern from April 3rd to April 7th. So far my schedule looks like this:                   April 3rd- Leave Killarney drive to Rock of Cashel from there drive to Ennis. Staying at the Old Ground Hotel.       April 4th - Leave Ennis . Visit Cliffs of Moher, Doolin , The Bureen and Ailwee Caves. Head to Galway. Staying at Days Hotel Galway.( looks like they have a nice pool for the kids).                 April 5th - Leave from Galway head to Connemara. Do a sightseeing cruise on Lough Corrib from Oughterard. From there drive to Clifden and do some horseback riding on the beach. Head back to Galway ( Days Hotel)                April 6th - Check out Galway City. Drive to Bunratty Castle. Stay in Old Ground in Ennis.                                                                                       April 7th - Leave out of Shannon Airport                                                 I'm wondering how this looks to everyone else. I've never been to Ireland before so can use some help. Because of the kids i really dont want to spend too much time driving. Also if anyone has any recommendations for a specific sightseeing cruise or horse riding stable that would be great. Also heard on Good Friday many places are closed. Does anyone know about Bunratty Castle? Any suggestions wil be appreciated.         Thanks Alot Rob

Rob,

Because you have young children you probably don't want to be in the car all day. Short hops with lots of breaks for sightseeing will be best. See my day by day coments below.

April 3rd- Leave Killarney drive to Rock of Cashel from there drive to Ennis. Staying at the Old Ground Hotel. * I suggest breaking your journey and spending the night in Cashel. I don't know your route and you did not mention Blarney Castle but it might be on your itinerary. One of Ireland's best castles Cahir Castle is nearby Cashel as is the enchanting Swiss Cottage. The Rock of Cashel itself will take at least an hour if not more. As you see it is a full day. The kids may enjoy things better if you stop short of Ennis. Driving time alone will be around 4 1/2 to 5 hours.

April 4th - Leave Ennis . Visit Cliffs of Moher, Doolin , The Bureen and Ailwee Caves. Head to Galway. Staying at Days Hotel Galway.( looks like they have a nice pool for the kids). * See my comments for April 6.

April 5th - Leave from Galway head to Connemara. Do a sightseeing cruise on Lough Corrib from Oughterard. From there drive to Clifden and do some horseback riding on the beach. Head back to Galway ( Days Hotel) * Fine.

April 6th - Check out Galway City. Drive to Bunratty Castle. Stay in Old Ground in Ennis. * You could do the Cliffs of Moher, Burren, etc. on this day. NOTE: This is Good Friday and many things will be closed including pubs and restaurants.

You can email Shannon Heritage about opening times of Bunratty Castle, Aillwee Cave, etc. reservations@shannondev.ie

Perhaps a bit of tweaking is in order?
