On our 2nd day in Ireland, we will be travelling from Doolin to Dingle. We will take our car via the Killimer-Tarbert Ferry. The Ferry runs every hour on the hour. Does anyone know about how long the drive will take to get from Doolin to Dingle (including the hour + on the Ferry)?
I'm trying to plan my time time in this area, but haven't taken into account the drive time yet. Thanks so much!
Dayna, Thanks for starting this post – we’ll do the same drive so I will follow it with great interest.
And if I may, I would like to add another question:does anyone know how long in advance do we need to be at the ferry terminal? Is it generally a long waiting line? We’ll be there in August.
It's about 130-140 miles or so, which would mean perhaps a 4 hour drive. It's a pretty good haul, so take your time and enjoy some of the best scenery that you will find over there.
Once you arrive in Dingle, the lengthy drive will be more than worth it for sure.
You are looking at a drive time of about 4 hours and 40 minutes. That does not include the ferry, which does not take an hour. More like 20 minutes for that. The ferry has more crossings in season than in off-season. You can check the schedule here: http://www.shannonferries.com/
During the season there can be a long wait in line, which is why they have an enhanced schedule.
Thank you. It sounds like we will need to allow 5 hours or so for the drive including the Ferry. If we head out of Doolin about 10:00 we may be in Dingle around 3 or 4:00. Thanks!
