Just checked the mailbox, and yet ANOTHER day has passed without a packet from Tourism Ireland. Considering I requested information on October 15th, 2006, this is a disappointment, to say the least. Of course, at this point it's just become a matter of principle, because anyone who has access to help from Michele does not need them anyway!
I must say, though, that had I been dependent on them for ideas and help, I would have booked a trip to somewhere else. Anyone else had better luck? BTW - I have had several e-mail exchanges with them. Supposedly, my e-mails were sent to the top offices by the folks who manage the on-line requests. They informed me that they do not actually send the packets out, and they were upset by the lack of follow-through on the part of their associates. I tried calling a couple of times, but that was even more of a joke. I was on hold for about 15 minutes each time, and I just gave up.
They are not good ambassadors for Ireland...what a shame. This forum is wonderful, but I found it accidentally (if there are such things as "accidents").
I messed up a couple of those links... A better "Ireland by car" link is here - from here you can download it to your PC if you like, or view it online http://www.ebstudio.net/irelandbycar/
Trying to get anything from Tourism Ireland in 2006 was a joke! They seem to be doing a better job in 2007, although they still don't have any 2007 info about No. Ireland available yet. I will have to pick it up myself instead. So far this year I have received everything I asked for speedily except for the 2007 Self-catering Guide.
You have to know what to ask for when you call them. Otherwise they will send you a skimpy "vacation kit". My husband often jokes that I have more info in my filing cabinets than Tourism Ireland does. But I get it in Ireland myself and can pick and choose.
I suggest calling again, toward the end of the afternoon. I usually get right through then.
They must have improved their service b/c a couple of weeks ago I requested a catalog and it came in the mail yesterday. I received a "vacation planning kit". I have not been able to look at it yet.
I also got a small booklet on Northern Ireland VERY quickly from discovernorthernireland.com.
My aunt also had a subscription to "Irland of the Welcomes".
All this helps to see about Ireland and will really come in handy when I do my Ireland scrapbook!
1 month and 1 day to go!!!!! Just waiting to get our documents from the travel agent- Hopefully we will receive them by the end of next week! See hte documents makes the trip "more real".
I ordered some info on line from Tourism Ireland and received it right away - within a few days I think, to Canada. Perhaps their service has improved of late.
Tourism Ireland is doing a much better job in 2007. Perhaps they realized there was a problem in 2006 and corrected it. I have to call them again soon for more literature. Let's see how long it takes this time.
