Is carry-on luggage allowed on Aer Lingus

We are flying to Shannon on Aer Lingus. When we bought tickets thru Travelocity we got a paper stating no carry-on luggage allowed, only wallet, passport, ect going to UK. I called them and they confirmed this. I looked on Aer Lingus web site and it show each passanger is allowed 1 carry-on. Which is True? We always bring change of clothes and camera in carry-on.
We are already aware of TSA rules on what is allowed.

I carried on a backpack in October, but things do change. However, I can't imagine NO carry-on. They can't expect people to check cameras and laptops. Add a book and meds to tickets and passport ... who would want all of that stuff flying around loose?

If you are flying from USA to Shannon, you are not going into the UK -- maybe that's where Travelocity went wrong...

James,

Thanks for taking the time to post the rules from Aer Lingus. I'm sure it will be very helpful for those traveling with them.

Hey - I realized this has been asked and anwered before but I'm wondering if anyone has had recent experience with hand baggage and Aer Lingus. I can find no where on the website where it addresses the "additional small items" any more.
On my last visit to Ireland my luggage was lost and since I've become a huge believer in carrying a change of clothes in my carryon bag. I typically carry a shoulder sling bag (not a backpack - I actually use it as a purse when I'm traveling) for under the seat. I'm just wondering if I'll have to limit myself to one or the other.
Anyone with recent experience?

Kelly,

I have not traveled on Aer Lingus recently. Last time was about 4 years ago from Germany to Ireland. Hopefully someone who has flown them recently will chime in. However, I notice on most airlines you can have a carry-on bag and one personal item. For me the personal item is my purse. For my husband it is his computer/camera bag.

On my last trip (I am just back) we did only carry-on. I had a rolling suitcase (small), a smaller carry-on and my purse. I was never questioned or stopped. I traveled on United and Delta.

I flew Aer Lingus last summer, but only on an inter-Europe flight, where they were QUITE restrictive.  I'm flying them this summer, but after Kelly, but I do know that their trans-Atlantic flights are much more liberal relative to baggage allowances.

On a seperate note, though ---

Never mind that Michele is an EXPERT on all things Irish ---

Why hasn't she started an undoubtably LUCRATIVE website dealing selling PACKING lists ! ! ! biggrin biggrin yawn biggrin biggrin

Kelly,

I also managed to fit 12 of my books into our two suitcases. On the way home they were replaced with brochures from Ireland.

Bob,

In a way I do sell a packing list. I have one in my book. The secret is planning ahead to do laundry, counting how many changes of clothes are needed and taking that exact number. If in doubt, leave it out. I also mix and match my clothes. My general color scheme is black, red and blue. All dark colors. I joke with my husband that my travel uniform is a long-sleeve denim blouse and dark slacks. I learned long ago that light colors do not work well on long trips.

We flew Aer Lingus from Chicago and I was a little intimidated by what they listed on their site. They have size and weight limits posted for your checked bag and also for your carry-on. I think it said one carry-on of 13 lbs. or less per person. I was afraid that my purse would be considered a bag and I would have to cram it into my other tote bag and then that would weigh over 13 lbs, but I'm happy to report that it was not a problem. They did weigh and tag our carry-on bags at the check-in desk, but did not comment on my purse. Our checked luggage was WAY below the max weight, and our carry-on bags were smaller than suitcases, and we did not have any problems.

Having a wonderful time in Kilkenny!

Marsha,

Thanks for the first-hand info on Aer Lingus carry-on. Glad you are having a good time despite the showery weather. Try Cafe Sol. They had an excellent early bird when I was there a few weeks ago.
