Recommended Music Recordings

Hi,

I was just looking for some recommendations on some irish music.  I'd like some good ol' traditional acoustic folk music.  I'm not really looking for a lot of wild jigs and reels or drinking songs...just some nice mellow accompanied vocals in an irish brogue.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

thanks,
Shawn

Dunno if you're looking for music to buy while IN Ireland, or the US...

In Ireland:

Anything by John Spillane, but "WELLS OF THE WORLD" first, and foremost. Cork based artist. Multi- Meteor Award Winner. Also partnered with Loius de Poer (Louis The Poet) and known as The Gaelic Hit Factory.

Niall Connelly Cork based, self produced, so hard to find.

Ciaran Wynne, Kildare born, based in Killarney and Montreal, Canada.

NO WAY HOME and TOURQUOISE & BROWN
Self produced.

Some of these, and MANY more can be ordered from:

http://www.thelivingtradition.com

This is an EXCELLENT Music shop in Cork City, run by the O'Flaherty brothers, who also operate a recording studio in Killarney.

Shawn,

You have added your photo too! Thank you. I am enjoying seeing everyone. I will have to go through my archive of old CDs to see what I have that might suit. Do you listen to Midwest Irish Radio online? Go to my "Hot News" page, scroll down and click on the icon. They have lots of contests where they give away music CDs. Maybe you will win some. They play a lot of what you may be looking for too.

Shawn,

One you might try is Geraldine MacGowan. She is phenomenal and very mellow. Michael Londra would be another you could try.

Hi All,

I found a wonderful CD (on EBay, at that!) by Margaret Barry, titled "The Late Great Margaret Barry Street Singer".  She is remarkable.  She was a native Corkian, but really started out as a street singer in and around Belfast., around 1942. She also sang at the Royal Albert and Royal Festival Halls. Appeared at major festivals throughout Eastern USA in the 70s and 80s.

I am thinking that Cowboy Craic would love this gal, if you haven't heard her already, Bit.

I really found her in UTube.

Hi,
Christy Moore is an Irish folk singer who has been active for over 30 years; plays guitar and bodrhan (not at the same time, I hope). Great live performer that I would love to see at De Barra's in Clonakilty where he plays occasionally. Released live albums in 2006.

My mother and I heard Pat Kellerher sing and play in Kenmare one night last May and both really enjoyed the evening. Mom enjoyed it so much that after returning to the states she contacted him to get CDs for all of us kids and some of her friends. I love mine--a live album recorded with Dan O'Sullivan in 2005. He's a folk singer, singing both old and new Irish folks songs.
