We will drive from Doolin to Castelgregory and were not looking for the fastest, but for the the most scenic road. Well have the whole day for this. Were planning to take a detour to Loop Head then the Tarbert ferry.
From the map Im looking at, we can do Doolin Lahinch N67 to to Kilkee, then use smaller roads to the Loop Head. How well marked are these smaller roads? We have an Ireland Michelin map, do we need a local one or the ordinance map I keep reading about? In some cases, there seem to be roads going in parallel one, smaller right by the coast, and a bigger one, more inland. How can we tell them apart while on the road? We would probably want to take the coastal road.
Other that stopping every time we encounter a great view where we need to stop for taking a picture, is there any other must-see we should consider? Any recommendation for lunch?
There's a nice restaurant just before Loophead in Kilbaha. It's the Lighhouse Inn Pub. You'll see it on the right as you drive through Kilbaha. You can eat inside or outside, watching the boats in the harbor.
My thanks to Dana for her restaurant suggestion. There are two roads. Go into Kilkee and the coast road is signposted for Loop Head. There are many beautiful photo stops along the way but you should stop at the Bridges of Ross. Follow the path to the left and you can walk across a gigantic sea arch.
Thanks a lot this is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.
As you can tell, the main itinerary and stops are planned by now, the B&B booked, and I am working on the details. So excited about the upcoming Ireland tripit will be our firs one.
We are always happy to be of help. I'm glad to hear that your trip is almost completed. You will have to let us know all about it when you return. I am hoping that you have good weather for Loop Head Drive.
