Killarney/Kenmare

Is it better to stay 2 nights in Kenmare or Killarney. We will be driving from Cahir to this area.   After Kenmare/Killarney to Dingle for 2 nights.  I've read on various boards that some think it is better to stay in Killarney and do the most scenic portion of the ROK.  We're not planning on seeing the complete ROK since we will drive the Dingle Peninsula while in Dingle.  I believe Kenmare is usually less crowded.

Thanks for all the advice,
Mary

My PERSONAL pick is Killarney, but we have friends there and we usually hit it after having spent a few days in some pretty small villages ...There's a reason why it is usually so crowded -- it's a magical place!

Having said THAT, it seems to me that you would probably enjoy Kenmare more.  It would also seem from your posts that you are already 'leaning' in that direction ...

You will drive one of the best 'bits' of the ROK when you go from Kenmare TO Killarney.  Nearby, the less-heavily traveled Beara has LOTS to offer.

Mary,

I like Kenmare because it is smaller and such a very pretty little town.

Best Wishes, Joan

Mary,

Kenmare is my favorite small town in Ireland. You really can't go wrong there. Killarney is larger and has more shopping, pubs, restaurants, etc. But for charm Kenmare is recommended.
