Heritage Pass

Hello all:

Will I be able to buy a Heritage Pass on Sunday at Shannon Airport?  We arrive there on May 13.  If not, where else could I get one?  Tourist office in Galway, perhaps?  Thanks!

You can buy the Heritage Pass at the first Heritage Site that you stop at. You buy them at the ticket counter, in lieu of a regular ticket. Dunno about Shannon Airport, but there IS a small Tourist Office there, on the ground floor of the Arrivals Hall, so you can inquire.

Enjoy! smile

Marie,
When we went to Ireland in 2004 our first stop was Knappogue Castle. I thought I could purchase a ticket there, but they didn't sell them. They honored them for admission if you had one. There was at least one other site we went to that accepted the Heritage Pass, but didn't sell them. I don't know if it has changed and they all sell the passes now.

Right now I'm trying to determine if I need to purchase one since I have the coupon pack. . . looking at the sites we want to see and what they accept. Does anyone know if there is a similar pass like the Heritage Pass for Northern Ireland?

I stand corrected.  I had been told (I THINK it was at the Rock of Cashel)that all Heritage sites sold the card...cry

Here's a link to the Official Site, which has a form to pre-purchase the cards:

This is a link to the only Heritage Card type pass that I have found so far for Northern Ireland.  This is a US based orginization that has a reciprical agreement with the National Trust in the UK (including NI).  Cost is $55 single or per couple is about $80, if you can wait 4-6 weeks or about $88, if you need 7 day delivery.

Dunno if it's worth it to you.

Bob,
Thanks for the link. We are not going until September so it will be useful for me.

Bob,
I also should mention that I still have dial-up internet service so it's cumbersome for me to surf the net. I appreciate your quick look-ups.

In my experience, I've found that any Heritage site with an admission fee sells the passes (some Heritage sites don't have an admission charge).

Knappogue isn't a Heritage site, so they wouldn't sell the passes...however, if they honor them, that's great...the Fort in Duncannon, Wexford gave a 2 for 1 discount with the Heritage Card when I was there. It doesn't hurt to ask at other non Heritage sites...but don't be disappointed if they don't.

Be careful not to confuse the Heritage card with the Heritage Island card (www.heritageisland.com). It offers an entirely different list of sites.

A similar card in Northern Ireland would be the National Trust (www.nationaltrust.org.uk). That card is good in throughout the UK.

Marie,

You will have to get the Heritage Pass at a heritage site. Or you can order online. Everyone else has already provided good links.Good advice to try using any pass you have at every site. Sometimes they honor whatever you are showing them even if not part of the plan.
