As further evidence that trip planning is never 100% complete, we've decided to add a twist to our itinerary.
During our 2nd week, we'll be doing a Castleisland to Waterford to Rock of Cashel run.
Preliminary plans have us deciding to stay the night in Cashel and taking small roads back to Castleisland the next day:
N74, Cashel to Tipperary R515, Tipperary to just west of Charleville R578, Charleville to Ballynahulla R577, Ballunahulla to Castleisland
I'm looking for B&B recommendations in Cashel. We'll need 4 beds, so we'll need at least two rooms in Cashel. Also, any info on the routes we're looking at would be appriciated!
In 2004, I stayed at Rockside House, now called Joy's Rockside House. It was very clean and comfy and couldn't be more convenient to the Rock of Cashel. Park the car at the b&b and just walk up to the Rock next door.
Clonmel isn't far from Cashel. My favorite B&B is in Clonmel. Riverside House, right beside the River Suir. New Quay, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary

This place is old school, several stories high, lots of rooms of various sizes from singles to many beds. There's a bathtub you can stretch out in.
The kitchen is below ground with stone floors.
Pauline serves a wonderful breakfast which is supposed to be what you get. But she always gave me hot soup and bread and sometimes more in the kitchen when I got home in the evenings.
The place is walking distance to everything in Clonmel. Clonmel is an easy drive to the sights around the area.
I loved seeing the Rock of Cashel and walking through the castle. The town was a bit crammed and touristy for me so I preferred the drive to Clonmel rather than actually stay in Cashel.
Joy's Rockside is my favorite B&B in Cashel. Just a few miles outside town is a working sheep farm, Dualla House. In town is also Bailey's of Cashel Hotel, which is very modern and well done. I haven't stayed there yet but it looked very nice when I inspected.
Well, I took Michele's advice and booked us into the Rockside. Got two rooms with views of the Rock. Looking forward to seeing it all lit up at night. Hopefully, we'll have enough time for Bru Boru also.
Any recommendations for dinner that night?
Thanks to all for their recommendations!
Michele, I made sure to reference IrelandYes.com when inquiring.
I am happy to hear you got into Joy's Rockside. The hosts are wonderful. For dinner try Chez Hans (expensive) or Hannigan's Pub (inexpensive). Rem and Joan may have other suggestions for you. I hear that Bailey's of Cashel's restaurant is good but have yet to sample it.
Check to see if the Bru Boru show is on while you are there. The Joys can let you know and can also book it for you.
