Parts of Ireland - Water Supply Problems???

Saw an article in RTE News from last week that part of the country's drinking water supplies may be at risk from contamination (Cryptosporidium).  Anyone know where the affected areas are and how serious this may be?  Concerned because we're flying out in a few days.

The area in question is in and around Galway City.  There is a 'Boil Water' order in effect, and people are being advised to drink and brush their teeth with bottled water.  It's inconvenient, but not life-threatening, unless you ignore the warnings.

Here's a link to a report from someone who has been in the affected area:

This link shows a map of the area affected:

This link advises as to what steps are being taken to correct the problem:

Thanks for the links.  Elsewhere it said there had been some cases in neighboring counties.  Maybe outside Galway County it is nothing to worry about.   I think we'll be safe on the Aran Islands but we might cancel our reservations in Galway City.

Splitstar,

You can take a look at the map link that Bob provided. It looks like it is a pretty wide area that affects many parts of the county. It is a serious problem but if you take precautions you will be fine. Just drink bottled water and also use it for brushing teeth. The B&B and hotel sector will have safeguards in place for their guests.
