Tipping at B & B's

I may have posted twice so please forgive me.  I'm kind of new to this.  Please tell me if one tips at B & B's and how much is appropriate.  I have never stayed at one before and we will leave next week for Ireland so I need a quick answer.  Thanks in advance.

RE: Tipping at B & B's

Rebecca,

Welcome to the forum. If you feel you have received exceptional service at a B&B or anywhere in Ireland you can leave a tip appropriate to the service received. B&B owners do not expect tips like the wait staff at restaurants. However, if they have made phone calls for you, made reservations for you at a restaurant, banquet or another accommodation or done you another service (a few do laundry) then you can leave something.

B&Bs are not offended by tips and the trend is currently changing to treat them like you would the rest of the service sector. You would tip a taxi driver, a hotel porter, a waiter, etc. and B&Bs do provide a service.

However, bad service anywhere is another matter. It is up to the individual to decide what sort of service they have received.
