I just noticed that Barryscourt Castle will be along my travel path. Anybody ever visited? I can't tell from the Heritage Ireland website how much of the castle is accessible. Does anybody know if you can go to each level, including the top? Is the tour worth it basically?
Also, I want to pop into Marks & Spencer in Cork. It's listed as being on Patrick street. Is this easy to get to from Kinsale, enroute to Blarney? I'm obsessed with some of their goodies and will want to pick them up on my last full day in Ireland.
It's a rainy day here in Houston, perfect for getting organized and packing, but I'm procrastinating by surfing the internet and reading my guide books. I love travel, but don't like packing, ack!
If you like old castles it is worthwhile. It is a guided tour only and takes about an hour. You can see various rooms such as bedrooms, the great hall, kitchen, dungeon, chapel, etc. The top is sometimes accesible, depending on weather (and the tour guide!).
Finding anything in Cork City is not easy. And once you get in it is hard to get out. Try to time it so it is not rush hour, otherwise it could take forever. Maybe you should print directions from AA Roadwatch.
I agree. I love touring castles too. Play it by ear and see how much you can fit in. You can always save it for next time. There is just so much to see in Ireland it takes more than one trip!
