B&B Recommendations plus Trip Report

Greetings all!
I've just posted our trip report and wanted to thank Michele and everyone here on the BB who provided us with great suggestions to ensure a fabulous holiday. It truly was the best!

To everyone wondering about buying Michele's book, do not hesitate. The B&B's listed as her recommendations are all sure winners. It was great knowing that we didn't need to worry about what conditions would be like. We are so grateful to have found this forum and to have used her book.

We had a couple of spots that Michele did not have a recommendation listed in her book for, and so had to take a chance and find our own. We lucked out and chose some great places so I wanted to share those with you. We didn't see any listings for Donegal Town itself so took the advice of someone else on this BB and booked at Island View. It is every bit as nice and clean as Michele's picks so don't hesitate to book there. (Phone No. 074 9722411 Bernadette Dowds)

Also, there was no recommendation for Boyle (Co. Roscommon) so we again took a chance and found Rosdarrig House online. I highly recommend this B&B. (www.rosdarrig.com;; info@rosdarrig.com ; 079 62040). Lovely, clean, roomy accommodations and you will be made to feel quite welcome there. I should also point out that the only reason we stayed in Boyle was because it was in the heart of O'Carolan country and provided me easy access to see all the sights related to Ireland's National Bard. Our time out at Lough Key was a highlight and an unexpected surprise. The Lake and visitors center was a great stop and one of those hidden treasures that I don't think many people know about. We'd definitely return to Boyle for a longer stay next time.

Thanks again, Michele (and Bit, and others) for everything!
Jeanne

Jeanne,

Welcome home from Ireland! Thanks for your kind words about my book and for the B&B recommendations. I actually have a few "quick picks" for Donegal town at the end of that chapter. I recently stayed at Donegal Manor and it will be reviewed in the next edition of my book. It is a superior place to stay with absolutely wonderful hosts.

I'm glad you had a good time. I am off to read your trip report.

Michele

RE: B&B Recommendations plus Trip Report

Hi, Jeanne, Michele, et al:

Just want to add my "2 cents" on Donegal Manor.  I cannot rave enough about the wonderful treatment we received while there. Sian and Michael are just fantastic.  I would not stay anywhere else when I return to Donegal.  And I surely will!  biggrin.gif

B&B Recommendations plus Trip Report

Glad to see the recommendations for Donegal Town. We have booked a Friday night at Ocean View in Killybegs, based upon Michelle's book but are having second thoughts. Our concern is that for a Friday night there would not be anything to do in Killybegs. We are traveling that weekend with our two son's ages, 14 & 20. We would like to get up Saturday and head out to the cliffs at Slieve League. What do y'all think? Friday night in Donegal or Killybegs? If Donegal would Island View or Donegal Manor be more convienent or should we just stay in town?
Hope it is alright to jump into this thread. Thanks all. Going to check out the above B&B's now!

suzinfla,

I would keep the reservation at Ocean View. Donegal town tends to get a lot of wedding on weekends and may already be full up. Also Killybegs will give you a head start on Slieve League. There will probably be something going on in Killybegs on a Friday night. Ask Helena at your B&B.

No problem jumping in on any thread. That's what the forum is for.

Michele
