September Trip to Ireland

My husband & I will be flying into Dublin mid September for 7 days/6 nights. We will be driving & have reservations for the International Herding Dog Trial in Kilkinney. When we leave Dublin we want to drive south to Wicklow & then over to Glendalough, Kildare, Portarlington and down to Kilkinney. Is that feasible in 2 days? Where would you suggest spending the night? We will have a voucher for a B&B.
We also want to do a day trip while based at Kilkinney to Limerick, Cork and back to Kilkinney. Is that too much to try for a day trip? If so, what would you suggest? When we leave Kilkenny we plan to go to Waterford and Wexford & spend the night in Rosslare to catch the ferry the next day to Wales. Do you have any suggestions for B&Bs?

Pat,

Can you clarify whether "Kilkinney" is Kilkenny in Co. Kilkenny or Killarney in Co. Kerry? I have suggested B&Bs on my Lodgings page.

We will be staying in Kilkinney City and I do have a B&B already reserved for those days, Shillogher House. I have purchased your book & am eagerly  waiting for it in the mail. Where would you suggest around Glendalough? And do you think the distance we are going to travel to Kilkinney City and the day trip are too long or not?

Pat,

Thanks for letting me know it is Kilkenny where you will be staying. Shillogher House used to be good many years ago but now it is getting pretty bad reveiws. You might want to consider Breagagh View or Newlands instead. Both take vouchers.

Using vouchers will greatly hamper where you can stay. There are not a lot of B&Bs in the Glendalough area taking vouchers. All the ones that I personally recommend do not accept them.

Driving from Dublin to Glendalough and then on to Kilkenny in one day is fine. However, it is a full day of sightseeing and driving. If you like gardens you may want to fit in Powerscourt too.

Do not attempt to do Limerick and Cork from Kilkenny in one day. It is impossible unless you want to be driving all day and night.

There are many wonderful things to see in the general area of Kilkenny. When my book arrives you will find much to keep you busy close by.

Unfortunately we are running into the voucher problem again in Wexford. My recommendations do not take them.

We only have 2 night for vouchers in Ireland. The rest of the time we are staying places without vouchers. I will check out Breahahh View & Newlands. Let me know if there are any other B&Bs that you would recommend higher in Kilkenny that don't take vouchers.

Pat,

My current favorite place to stay in Kilkenny is Laragh House. It is linked on my "Lodgings" page. For Wexford I like Granville House. In Glendalough I like Riversdale.

Since you need to use the vouchers somewhere, consider Breagagh View or Newlands. Then go voucherless wilth the other stays.

Does your book have recommendations for a B&B in Rosslare? We will be staying there one night to catch the ferry to Wales.
Also, do you know of any forums like this for England and Scotland? I would love to find one!

Pat,

I have a recommendation outside Wexford, which is not far from Rosslare. It is Granville mentioned above.

I don't know of any forums exactly like this for England and Scotland. However, try the Fodors Euorpe forum.
