Reservations at B&B's

Have checked with a few B&B's for our trip in Apr.  Before I actually do the booking, I have a question.
If I book online with one that does not accept credit cards, do I have to send them payment from the US?  Or do they just accept the reservations and I pay when I get there.  Part of that was covered in you B&B ettiquette, but wasn't sure how I reserved a room without a credit card.

Thanks for any help

I had a couple for our trip in Sep that didn't accept credit cards. They just took the reservation and asked me to call when I get to Ireland to confirm that I'm still coming.

Some of them will ask that you send a deposit check. However, as Merlene stated, merely request that you call and confirm a few days out from your reserved date.

The drill varies between B&B owners.  Ask what they want to hold the room and go from there.  Even those who HOLD the room via a credit card will often not TAKE it as payment once you get there, so be prepared to use cash. You'll do just fine!

We made reservations at B&Bs that only accept cash.  Even though they don't accept credit cards they do accept them to reserve the room.  I did not send my credit card information in an e mail though--I can't imagine that would be safe.  All but one B&B had a secure site to use for reservations.  I mailed my credit card information to her.

Judy,

As you can see from the very helpful replies, each B&B differs in how they handle reservations. Below are some ways of making reservations:

1. B&B asks for a credit card number and will take cards for payment.

2. B&B asks for a credit card number for reservation and wants cash payment.

3. B&B asks you to mail them a check to hold the reservation. Payment in cash.

4. B&B does not require a credit card or check for reservation but asks you to call and confirm shortly before your arrival.

5. B&B has a secure site for making reservations and taking credit cards for payment.

I have not had a problem sending CC info via email. Break it up into three messages and break up the CC # into those three emails. Or if you are not comfortable with that, call or fax the info.

Thanks to all who replied
Michelle, the check is in the mail for your 2007 book.
Think the plan is now Arr Shannon\
Day 1  Drive to Cashel
Day 2   Cashel
Day 3  Drive to Kenmare
Day 4  Kenmare
Day 5  Kenmare
Day 6   Drive to Dingle
Day 7   Dingle
Day 8   Drive to Ballybunion, or Tarbert
Day 9     Drive to Doolin
Day 10   Drive to Ennis
Day 11   Fly home

This is meant to be a slow trip.  Does it look to slow..Or to fast?confused

Judy,

It looks good! Although you could drive Dingle to Doolin in one day. However, if you don't want a lot of driving your plan will work best.

Thanks Michele.
No, this is to be a slow and easy trip.  Going to Tarbert and  next day try for the Cliffs before on to Doolin.  I'm finally getting this going and of course getting anxious to go.  Trying to keep costs down, but don't think I'm very successful.

Thanks again for all the help on the site..

Judy,

Seems like a fun trip you have planned. If the weather is good I really enjoyed the cliff walk at Ballybunion. My husband and I saw pods of dolphins in the water below. It is a very easy walk with benches to rest on along the way.

I know it is tough keeping costs down especially with the exchange rate right now. Look at the "Tips & Tricks" page on my website for some info on that.

Judy,

Glad the book arrived and is proving helpful. April may not be your last trip to Ireland. If you are like many people here on the forum, you will have to return again and again! Not such a bad fate.
