Castle Lodge Malahide

Hi Michelle,
I only found out about your wonderful forum recently. when I read Melissa5's fantastic trip report on Trip Advisor. I ordered your book yesterday, but previously made reservations at the Castle Lodge in Malahide. Do you know anything about it?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

Welcome to my forum! Take a look at Melissa5's trip report here as it is even more extensive. It is under the "Trip Report" section of the forum.

I am not familiar with Castle Lodge in Malahide. I do have a recommendation for Beechwood Country House. Click through to my "Lodgings" page for the link. It is a fantastic B&B.

Thanks for your response. I think, since I've confirmed reservations, I'll plan on us staying there, unless I read something negative about it. If we do stay there, I'll be sure & post our experience. We fly to DUB 9/26, plan to visit Glendalough, Enniscorthy, Wexford, Kilmore Quay, New Ross, Waterford, Kilkenny, Cloughjordan, Killaloe, Cashel, Tipperary, Cork, Kinsale, Kenmare, Dingle, Ennis, Doolin, Inisheer, Lisdoonvarna, Ballyvaughan, Athlone, Cavan, back to DUB 10/15. Think we can do it?
Antoher question - my cell phone (Verizon) doesn't work in Ireland. Think I read that someone rented a phone at Tesco for the duration of their trip. Is that expensive?

Steve,

I rented from http://www.rentaphone-ireland.com/ I had them leave it at Dan Dooleys car rental counter. We liked having it and we knew our phone number before leaving home. Incoming calls had no charge. I forget how much out-going were and how much the rental was. My two grown sons liked it so their girl friends could call them.

Have a wonderful trip, Joan

Steve,

You have well over two weeks in Ireland so I think you can see what you have outlined. Many things can be done by choosing good bases and day tripping from them. Having multiple-night stays in those places will give you a more relaxed trip. Then you can sprinkle in some one-night stays where it makes sense.

If you go to my "Discounts" page you can get a discount on a rental phone. You can also buy a cheap phone in Ireland. Last time I checked the Vodafone store at Dublin Airport had a phone for 49 euro that included calling time. Some car rental companies will also rent phones.
