This is a bit of an emergency question. Leaving from Chicago tomorrow, going to Ireland. Weather to be around 90 degrees here. Bringing a box of specialty chocolates as a gift (mostly just chocolate, nuts, and caramel). Concerned that putting them in checked luggage will result in them melting. Will I be able to take them thru security as part of carry-on? (Already checked TSA website, but question wasn't answered there.) Thanks for your prompt reply -- truly appreciate it. (They are wrapped with a bow.)
As far as I know, chocolates shouldn't be a problem. I've taken them and granola bars in my checked bags through O'Hare and have never had a problem. Just be ready to open the box if asked (I've never had a TSA agent think twice about my chocolates).
Bottled water, gels and creams are a different story. No. No. No. Unless you follow the 3-1-1 rule posted on the TSA site.
Thanks to Yesiree and Michele for the info. Michele, great, great site. FYI -- before hearing back from you, I spoke to a res agent at Aer Lingus and she was pretty sure that there would be no problem with a box of chocolates, but suggested that I attach the receipt to them in case security had any hesitation about letting them through. (Hence, the box, the bag, and the receipt would all have the store's name on them.) Thanks again.
