Im doing some early planning for another possible early June 08 visit (fly into Shannon) to Irelands West coast. My wife Mary and I figure well migrate a little north for a few days on our way to Knock, and then drive to Dublin either late Wed. or early Thurs. to get a plane and continue on to Sweden.Weve done the Killarney / Dublin areas on a past visit. So, on this visit, following a day/nite stay (folk park and evening Barn or Castle dinner) in Bunratty, the Sunday begins with mass, and then a start for next nites stay in Doolin. Can we visit Ennis (probably for lunch) then onto to Loophead (Michele raves about it), back up to the new Cliffs of Moher and then a B&B in Doollin. My ???, is this to much for 1 day to do?.Have we missed anything else of interest between these locations. Any holidays to worry about?. thanks for any help-gary
How great that you and your wife are visiting Ireland again...and Sweden! With the long days in June you can do Loop Head and end the day in Doolin. If the visitor's center at the Cliffs of Moher is already closed for the day, you could visit it the next morning since Doolin is so close.
Holidays in June: First Monday in June is a Bank Holiday.
My wife Mary and I have finally tweaked our itinerary.Weve upped it a couple of days due to Swedens

June 2Mon. This is a holiday, so I don't know of any concerns. We'll travel towards Dublin for airport hotel.Booked at Holiday Inn Express next to Crown Plaza hotel.Id like to visit the Famine Museum (Mary doesnt cause it will make her sad), anything else along the way, maybe in Roscommon. Not sure if we will be to late to drop off the car as the shuttle bus service is available to the hotel.Unless Malahide castle is nearby for a possible evening visit.
June 3Tues.Fly to Stockholm, Arlanda airport.Nancy and boyfriend Jonas will meet up with us to be our personal tour guides.
June 10Tues .Fly out of Copenhagen to Dublin for another airport hotel (Holiday Inn Express) overnight.
Strokestown is a good stop. Not only can you visit the museum but tour the house and gardens. They have a nice cafe there. If the famine museum part does not suit your wife perhaps she can wait for you in the cafe and have a book with her to read.
I doubt if Malahide Castle will be open by the time you arrive in the Dublin area. However, depending on how long your visit to Strokestown is you might fit in Belvedere House & Gardens (just south of Mullingar).
Michele, I've emailed the contact you listed. No word yet. Mary was also looking at the Botanical Garden, but that too would probably be to late. If you can, could you map the Belvedere House & Gardens (just south of Mullingar) that you indicated. thank you -gary
Gary, I could have spent an entire day in the walled gardens at Strokestown, so that could be some place for your wife to while away the time that you are on the tour. We had lunch at the tearoom, also. We were there in September and the gardens were lovely so I would imagine June would be spectacular.
They obviously need some Disney training. It probably depends on who is at the desk. Ask for Lily and see what happens. You could also have Mary at Bunratty Lodge call them for you with your request. Keep your ticket and hope for the best.
