Hi Michelle...I've recently received my Irish citizenship. However, I do not live there. Are you aware of any advantages my citizenship would afford me as a tourist? We are considering retiring there in a few years. Thanks, Howdey
Welcome to my forum! Irish citizenship will let you stay in Ireland indefinitely. The usual length of time you can visit for is 3 months with an extension to 6 months and then you must leave the country. However, you can stay as long as you like.
I don't know of any advantages citizenship will have on buying real estate...if you've got the money or the good credit, you can buy a house in Ireland.
Your citizenship could make you eligible for some of the "social welfare" services. For example, citizens of a certain age don't pay for electricity or public transport.
Having your citizenship may save you a few steps if you plan to get an Irish drivers license and paperwork like that.
The biggest advantage I know would be that you aren't limited a 90-day visit, and you can work and travel freely in the EU.
There are a few books you might find useful...Adapter Kit Ireland and another one that I think is called Living and Working in Ireland. They have lists of resources on the topic.
