Suggestions?? Itinerary question....

Okay, now comes the task of lodging and trip planning.  What I usually find fun, seems a bit overwhelming.  I am not familiar enough w/Ireland (yet) to really have confidence in my choices.

Based solely on Frommer's one week itinerary, this is what I am working with thus far:

3/17 Arrive in Dublin.  Spend 3/17, 3/18, and 3/19 exploring Dublin

3/20 Drive south to Wicklow and stay in Kilkenny

3/21 West to Waterford and Cork.  Stay in Cork

3/22 Cork to Kerry.  Stay in Kerry

3/23 County Clare.  Stay ??

3/24 ?

3/25 ?

3/26 Fly home from Shannon.

So....I have no emotional ties (yet) to this itinerary.  Any suggestions?  Longer or shorter in a certain area?  Different route or direction?  Recommendations for lodging?

TIA!

Hi,
I think after a 3rd night in Dublin youll be ready to hit the road for Wicklow. The town does have a neat Restored gaol (jail) to visit. Also, have the tour guide show how Jill would be taken prisoner, and have your camera ready. Plus, if you park in a town lot, get a parking permit from one of the stores and place it on the dashboard. Unless that system has changed over the years.
But lets back up and find out when you are getting the rental car. It sounds like from Dublin.??

I figure we'll pick up a rental car after our stay in Dublin.
Is three nights too long in Dublin?
We'll get in on St Paddy's day so I figured we'd crash in the hotel once we arrive to gear up for a fun night on the town. That'd leave two days for seeing sites in Dublin.

Should we try to make it up to Northern Ireland? I've heard both yes and no!

Jill & John,

In the amount of time you have available, choose between No. Ireland and the south. Consider spending a couple of days in strategic areas like Kilkenny and Kenmare or Killarney as there is much to do from there.

Cork is a large city and most people prefer to stay in either Blarney or Kinsale, depending on what they are visiting by way of sightseeing.

I have lots of recommendations for good places to stay on my "Lodgings" page. Take a look. There are even more with complete reviews in my book.
