There is so much about trying to see to much in such a short time. Now, I'm wondering if we are going to have to much downtime. We arrive on 23 Apr and plan to drive to Cashel. Will tour the Rock on the 24th and perhaps Cahir??? Spend the nite of the 24th there also. Day 3--Travel to Kenmare Day 4--Just stay in town and shop. Day 5--Do the Beara Peninsula Day 6-- Head for Dingle! Places to stop on way???? Day 7--Do the Dingle Peninsula Day 8--Head for Tarlburt and spend the nite. What to see on way there??? Day 9--Take ferry and head to Doolin. See Cliffs on way?? Spend nite there Day 10--Head to Bunratty for the nite. Do we have time for Connemara etc. on the way there? Day 11--Fly home. Countryside, locals, pubs are the main things to see=do. Too much downtime????
Do you have a compelling reason to spend the night in Tarbert? I only ask because the drive from Dingle to the Cliffs / Doolin is an EASY all-in-one-day drive, even in April. You would be better served to use day 8 somewhere else -- a second night in Kenmare would get my vote.
Between Kenmare and Dingle is Killarney -- and SEVERAL days' worth of activities Ross Castle is gorgeous and they have an EXCELLENT guided tour. So, too, is Muckross House and the Traditional Farms. The National Park and the Lakes are some GORGEOUS scenery. You will drive through Moll's Gap and past Ladies View, en route, and they are both worth a few minutes stop. You won't have time to do the Gap of Dunloe trip (it takes 6-7 hours, begining about 10 AM), but you could hire a jaunting cart for a short ride through part of the Park ...
Galway is another option for your "excess" day eight -- (between Doolin and Bunratty), but even if you did THAT, I think you would be hard-pressed to see much of the Connemarra. It is DEFINITELY out of the question, on day 10.
Over-all, it looks like an EXCELLENT schedule/pace, beyond the question of Day Eight.
I'll let the others weigh in, but that's MY 1 Euro cent worth ...

What is your arrival time in Ireland? Are you arriving in Shannon or Dublin? Had you thought of doing the Rock of Cashel on arrival day and Cahir Castle on your drive down to Kenmare?
I agree with Bob that stopping in Tarbert is not necessary unless you have a specific reason for it. If you took a day from Cashel and one from Tarbert then you could see Connemara.
Again, I agree with Bob that there is several days worth of sightseeing just in Killarney. Go with his suggestions of Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms and Ross Castle. You might be able to squeeze in a short jaunting car ride or the Cherry Tree Walk (would be fab in April).
Thank you for the help. We will be arriving at Shannon early morn. If time would allow, I would like to drop thru Adare on way to Cashel. If that would allow us time to tour the Rock. and then we could do Cahir the 2nd day. As for the Tarbert, I thought we could get up late on day leaving Dingle and I wanted to go thru Ballybunnion as per your recommendation Michele. Then we would be in Tarbert for an early morning ferry ride. We just want to be able to stop wherever we see something of interest, but still not have to drive after dark. We are spending 3 nites in Kenmare. And maybe after 1/2 day of shopping we could go to the Park. I just wanted to make sure we weren't having too much downtime. As far as Galway, I would prefer to stay away from the larger cities. Was there and Muckross House in Oct of 2001. Thanks Bob and Michele.
Let the weather determine if you will stop in Ballybunion. The Cliff Walk and beaches are lovely if the sun is shining! You will want definite reservations for May 2 through 4 because that is a long Bank Holiday weekend.
You need to see Muckross Gardens in the spring. The rhododendrons are as big as houses. Don't skip it unless it is pouring rain. I go there every time I am in Killarney and am not disappointed.
So, you do not have too much down time. You will have plenty to see and do and enjoy it that much more for the slower pace. Skip Connemara this time and save it for another trip. When you can do it you can choose to stay somewhere other than Galway.
Michele, Let the weather determine----Well, I'm determined that the weather will be beautiful I really want to do the Cliff Walk. I used to live in Wa state, so I still have my webbed feet. But thank you for the Muckross and rhodies. Big as a house!!!Am looking forward to that. Do you think that would be a place we could stop and do it justice on our way from Kenmare to Dingle? I have reservations for the 2nd of May, but trying to change to Bunratty Lodge. Since I use computer at library, I could not get to her website, so sent a letter off last week to see about availability on the nite of the 2nd. After you told me that was a bank holiday, I doubt I can get it. So, I'll just keep what I have (at a much higher rate I must say).
Thank you for all your help. Am so looking forward to the trip
I will be wishing for good weather for you in Ballybunion. I know of a very nice B&B there if you are interested.
You can definitely do justice to Muckross House & Gardens on the drive to Dingle. You have to see the gardens in springtime. You could include the Cherry Tree Walk. It would be beautiful too.
Mary at Bunratty Lodge just may have room for you. I'm sure you will find out soon. Her email address is: reservations@bunrattylodge.com
