I am orgainising a 4 day tour for a group of 46 people. We will be coming from Edinburgh - possibly flying to Dublin or getting the ferry at Stranraer.
We want to see the following: Ring of kerry, Connemara, Cliffs of Moher and Dublin - is this possible in 4 days? If not, what itinerary would you suggest? Where is best to stay overnight? We'd also like a 'unique ' experience maybe a castle stay or a visit/trip to somewhere special - can you suggest anything?
All help more than welcome I am not familiar with outside of Dublin, thanks
Welcome to my forum! If you go to my "Getting Started" page it will walk you through the steps of getting your trip started. First thing is to contact Tourism Ireland for maps, brochures, etc. When you have a map you can use the AA website to determine routes and travel times.
I see that jet-lag will not be a problem. I assume you will be hiring a coach?
Much will depend on where you enter Ireland and the time of day. With only 4 days (or parts thereof) it might be better to concentrate on one area instead of 4. Trying to accomplish so many different areas in only 4 days is going to give your group a "green blur" tour. They will be on the bus the whole time. In Oct the days are getting shorter so you don't have the luxury of daylight till 10 like in summer.
You could easily fly into Shannon, Cork or Kerry Airport and spend your time in the southwest and be perfectly happy with many sightseeing day trip options.
Day 1 (Fri/Mon/Tues) Arrive Dublin - city tour (time permitting) overnight Dublin Day 2 - Dublin - Galway - any 'special activities on route? whisky tasting - castles/etc??) Day 3 - Galway - Connemara - Killarney Day 4 - Killarney Ring of Kerry - Cork 17.00 for 18.35 Flight to Edinburgh (Mon/Th/Fri). Overnight Edinburgh
It would be a challenge doing all of that in such a short time with so many people. I concur with Michele that one section of Ireland is plenty, instead of trying to travel to and actually see the sites in Dublin-Galway-Killarney, etc. on consecutive days. You might want to scale back a bit -- travel will not be quick and things to see along the way will be numerous. Less is more as far as travel in Ireland is concerned.Meeting people along the way is the real reward, so don't try to do more than time allows.
Your plan would be a blur in October with two people in a car...it's really not doable with a busload of 45.
Ditto on the SW advice...it caters to groups like yours.
Or stick to Dublin and the SE.
Dublin & Galway/Connemara could be an option as well.
Your itinerary will also depend on what time of day you arrive and depart Ireland. Do the folks providing your motorcoach offer some suggestions as well - Many can also assist with accommodation bookings and other details?
We've got a few podcasts on the areas you mentioned...folks in your group might want to listen to as "teasers" for the areas you end up visiting.
I suggest you choose either Galway or Killarney, not both. Did you look at the AA website to see about driving times? With your current plan you really won't have time to see much but the scenery passing the window as you drive from place to place. Please reconsider your plans. It will make your tour soooo much better.
Thanks for all of your advice - it's really helpful! The group want to see soooo much - I will try and persuade them!! Maybe I can get them to fly to Galway/Cork and day tour from there.. Hazel
