I saw on the Dooley site that they are having a special for 4-people ranging from $699 in April 2008 to $829 in May. This includes 6 nights at te Bunratty Castle Garden, airfare, standard full size car rental/ optional upgrade..full breakfast. I am sure that there are taxes, etc to go with this deal. I was wondering if this is a good option for seeing Ireland since you would be staying in one place..and do you know anything about the accomodations. thank you
Personal choice, but I prefer two night stays as I travel through Ireland. Staying six nights in one place -- especially Bunratty -- would seem to me to be a bad use of your ability to see the many sites in the country. The price sounds interesting, but since most like to get back to their "base" by nightfall and then walk to pubs or restuarants in town at night, you would be lacking in anything to do at night after the first evening.
There are two questions here. Is it a good deal? Is it a good way to see Ireland?
To find if it is a good deal you need to put all the pieces together. Bunratty Castle Gardens according to this website http://www.dreamireland.com/property/Castle_Gardens_3_bed.19596.html#prices has rates of 482.00 per week. That is for all of you, not per person. You can get a 6 day car rental for around $196 inclusive of CDW but not Super CDW. I don't know where you live so don't have a clue what your airfares would be. You can easily look them up on airline websites. What you have so far is around US$910 for the four of you, not per person. Add on your airfare to see what your final cost is. Compare with what Dooley is quoting you to compare.
Second question. Is it a good way to see Ireland? It depends on what you want to see. Self-catering can be a very relaxed way to see parts of Ireland. The thing is you are tied to a certain area. I could certainly find plenty to see and do from Bunratty for a week. However, you may want to see things farther afield.
As for Bunratty Castle Gardens they are relatively new and on the grounds of the Shannon Shamrock Hotel. I suppose the breakfast is in the hotel as well as the pool and leisure facilities.
What do you want to see in Ireland? That will determine whether self-catering is for you.
Good points, and I guess I would also ask if you have been to Ireland previously? If so, maybe staying in one place for your stay is what you are looking for.
