Hello Michele and everyone, Does anyone have first hand knowledge about the Abbey Mews self catering cottages that are connected with Abbey House B&B? Looks like my kind of place, a nice location within "easy walking distance to pubs and shops" and loaded with character. Unfortunately no inside photos. http://www.abbeyhouse.net/
Unfortunately I have no knowledge of Abbey Mews. I suggest contacting the owners and having them send photos of the inside of the cottages. When I look at photos of self-catering I always scrutinize to see if the beds look saggy, whether the bathroom and kitchen are up to date and if it has a washer and dryer. Also read the terms carefully. A few places have coin-operated meters for electricity and I would avoid that. Most will take a meter reading on arrival and departure and then you pay for what you use.
Boyle is a bit off the usual tourist track but perhaps someone else has been there and will reply.
Michele and Anchoress, Thanks very much for your help. I have emailed for more information than is provided on the website. The fact that it has had recent modernisation makes me feel more confident about booking. We've stayed in a number of self catering facilities in Ireland, some of them pretty quirky, but have not made any really regretful choices. I'll let you know what happens. Stewart
Once you communicate with the owners and get photos and answers you will be better prepared to make a decision on Abbey Mews. Yes, we definitely want to hear what you choose and how you liked it when you get back.
I am going to be self-catering myself for two weeks soon (two different locations) and hope to be able to pass along the info to everyone afterwards.
And this accommodation is 3 star rated...That says much.
hen I was there, the Abbey ruins, which was what I was seeking to look round of course, were closed. So I explored the whole area very carefully indeed to see if there were any way I could ...... get in...... It is lovely indeed; it was around this time of year and there was a drift of snowdrops by the river, which is bordered by mature trees. Met a delightful cat who wanted to come home with me; she was clearly in kitten. Some of the old cottages are literally built into the walls of the Abbey; they would have been "grace and favour" dwellings. I talked with the owner of the big house then; there was building work going on at that time. Blessings. Yet another gale here and snow forecast again. But the birds are singing.
I received more info from Christina at Abbey House/Abbey Mews. Sounds good. Well equipped and now being re-decorated. We have booked in for a week in May. Thank you Michele and Anchoress. Stewart
I'm glad to hear you have your self-catering in Boyle reserved. It is always a relief to cross one thing off the list and move on to the next. We want to hear all the details when you return!
I am sorry that I hadn't answered you more quickly. I have been battling with pneumonia this week. I am glad to hear that in the meantime, you have heard from Christina and made your reservations. You will not be disappointed. I was in the self-catering units before their refurbishment and found them more than adequate. I am sure that the renovations have made them even better. I will look forward to hearing about your visit on your return.
I hope that you enjoy your stay in Co. Roscommon. It is, as I have said before, a grand county much overlooked by visitors.
I'm so sorry to hear you are ill. Take care of yourself and get well soon. We've missed you around here! Thanks for the feedback for Stewart. That is exactly what he was looking for.
Bit, Thanks for the 1st hand info. As Michele says, that is exactly what I had been looking for. We are looking forward to Boyle and then Co. Donegal and then a week of 'yet to be determined'. Sorry to hear you've been battling pneumonia. Get well soon. We certainly missed your input. Stewart
