A friend and I are planning a backpacking trip. We will be going July 17-29. We are doing it as cheap as possible- staying in hostels. We will be in Ireland a total of 13 days/12 nights. We begin in Shannon, travel to the Cliffs of Moher (Days 1 and 2); Galway and Sligo (Day 3 and part of 4) on our way to Dunkineely (one hostel we're staying at.- Day 4) Next we travel to the Giants Causeway and Ballycastle (Days 5 & 6) It's debatable wether we stop in Belfast on our way south to Newgrange, (maybe Dublin) and Glendalough (Days 7-9); Next we hit Kilkenny for a night in Foulksrath (Day 10) Castle then maybe down to Waterford, followed by Cobh, (Day 11) Cork (Day 12) and back up to Shannon (Day 13). Is this possibe? If no- what should I cut out? We want to see as much as possible, but I"m not sure if I have over planned this. We will rent a car, so we can leave on our own time schedule. What do you think?
Like most first-timers to Ireland you want to see and do it all. If you want a trip that is fast and furious, your itinerary will work. You will be driving right along and covering a lot of territory. You will miss out on some good sightseeing. You are going from the very north to the very south. Had you considered doing one or the other?
Yeah... I figured as much when it comes to being fast and furious. I just want to see it all. I pretty much figured that it would not being a restful vacation! But I also want to be reasonable. I have a hard time figuring what to see this time and what to save for the (hopefully) next trip. I've also pretty much booked hostels in both the north and south- before i found your website. Should I just eat the deposits and change... or give it a try? thank you so much for your help to this ireland newbie!!!
You are not going till July, almost 6 months from now. What are the cancelation rules for the hostels? I would think your deposit would be returned this far out. Perhaps you should contact them to see.
If you can change some of them I suggest you choose either the north or south. Not both.
