Vodaphone Store

Is there a Vodaphone Store located in the Shannon Airport where I can buy an Irish SIM card and a calling card package when I arrive?  I understand for about 10 EUROS, you can get a SIM card and calling card with some Euro time on them.  I will be bringing a GSM Quad Band Unlocked Phone with me and want to insert the Irish SIM card in it.  Are all SIM cards the same size and will they fit all phones?

noshot9,

There is no phone store in Shannon Airport. The closest place would be Sky Court Mall in Shannon Town. Here is a link for Vodaphone locations: http://www.vodafone.ie/df/locator/

Perhaps Bob will let us know if all SIM cards are the same size. I have an idea that they must be.

Has anyone ever purchased the VODAFONE SIM card package ( 9.95 E, I believe) from their web site so you could have it when you got to Ireland or is this option to purchase only good if you are already in Ireland?

It sounds like your phone meets the criteria (Bob will be able to confirm).

You'll have no problem swapping out the SIM card. It is a standard size. I did it with Vodaphone and O2 on unlocked phones purchased in the US and Australia.

I purchased a very similar SIM package from Vodaphone...I bought mine at a shop in Ireland. You can expect to pay between 10-20 E for the SIM card...depending on the provider and package.

I'd shoot Vodaphone an email to find out if you can get it sent to the US...otherwise, it'll be easy to get a SIM card in Ireland...every village has a crop of mobile phone providers...and they can hook you up with a new SIM card in a few minutes.

Firstly, if it IS an unlocked quad-band phone, you will be fine.  I used an old tri-band for a couple of years, before 'up-grading' to my current quad-band.

All sim cards are the same -- it is a world-wide standard.

I bought my Vodaphone Sim online, from a company here in the US, but I paid a HEFTY premium for the luxury of knowing my Irish # BEFORE I left.  That company no longer carries foreign SIMS, but I have discovered this one,
http://www.cellularabroad.com/irelandppsc.php
that does, although I have never used them.  They offer an O2 SIM, with a similar deal to what I got a few years ago on my Vodaphone account.  Also at the HEFTY premium, however, so unless you POSITIVELY, ABSOLUTELY MUST know the number ahead of time (like I did -- elderly in-laws), I wouldn't think it would make sense to pre-buy.

But the option IS there -- if you feel the need.
