Adapters

Bob, I see your online now.  Can you help me with the adapter conversion question.
I have a curling iron that has the 120/220 deal.  When looking for adapters in the the stores, I find two kinds.  One with the 2 prongs and then one with 3 slots.  They both say for Ireland or Europe.  What is mostly in the B&B's.?

Any help with be aha  helpful..

Thanks

I believe the only plugs that I've seen have ALL been the Three (3) Prong type.

If you go HERE:
http://www.beststuff.co.uk/electrical_plug_adapters.htm

you'll see what they look like.  Their PB12 is the type I've used -- though not THEIR brand.  Radio Shack or Lafayette Electronics (or similar) should sell individual plugs (without all the OTHER adapter types).

I am having a hard time finding an adapter plug in my home town.  I assume that I need the 3 flat prong plug adapter, which may be the same as the UK Plug.  I have been to Radio Shack, Target, WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. with no luck.  I can GOOGLE up the UK Plug to see what it looks like and order one on line from several suppliers.

Can you purchase an adapter plug somewhere at Shannon Airport  when you arrive in Ireland?  That way I would know that I had the right one.  Can you also buy a transformer there if needed?

Here's some on the Target.com web site:
http://www.target.com/Embark-All-in-1-Adapter-Plug-Black/dp/B000JEYAG2/sr=1-1/qid=1204566340/ref=sr_1_1/601-5699968-9057762?ie=UTF8&rh=k%3Apower-plugs-international&page=1

The UK and Ireland share the same Electric system, plugs and sources, so the same adapter will cover BOTH areas.  If you are worried, Target also offers a kit, that includes a transformer and nearly EVERY type of adapter plug that you might ever need, anywhere in the world, for about $30:

Yes, places in Ireland will sell the converters and adapters, though you MAY have to go to a Tourist area and/or shop to find them, and they will DOUBTLESS be rather pricey.....

I know I'm showing my ignorance here confused , but how do you know if/when you need the transformer as well as the adaptor? All of our hotels/B&Bs in 2004 had hairdryers, and we didn't have anything else with a plug, so we didn't bother looking into it then.

I had a sleep study recently and hope to have the results when I go back to the doc tomorrow. There's a chance I may be schlepping a CPAP around Ireland, so I'm curious now. I went to the local AAA office over lunch and looked at all of their adaptors, just to get a feel for what's involved.

We arrived in Ireland without our adapter and we realized my daughter needed one for her camera charger. While driving the Ring of Kerry, we stopped and found one in Kenmare (at the first store we tried). Unfortunately, we didn't buy it because my daughter mistakenly thought she had uneven prongs on her US charger and the store didn't carry that kind. The host at Gleann Fia (Killarney) lent us one that evening and at that point, my daughter realized her camera charger prongs were the same size. We then went into Killarney and purchased an adapter (7 Euro, I believe). We didn't need it for anything else as all places we stayed provided hair dryers.

We did much the same. The adapter we brought in from the US with a laptop did not work, as we found when the laptop "died".. Bought one very cheaply at a small electrical shop in Killybegs. Which is still working as I type.

It is often the case
