With Shannon as the starting point of the days activities, would a drive to Loop Head and back be too aggressive or would you recommend Cliffs of Moher and other closer sites? I'm assuming the Loop Head drive would be the entire days activity but the Cliffs would need other sites to fill the day.
Also, with Shannon as the starting point, would the drive to Cashel be a good distance for one day and then new base for the night? Plan being to tour the Rock of Cashel and surrounding sites that day, time permitting, or start there in the morning to start the new day.
All activities are based on some "site" goal for the day but with complete flexibility to change if we want, stop regularly for anything of interest and do our best not to do a "green" blur tour. Timing is the last week of April.
I hope you get some good replies about Shannon to Cashel. That is what we are doing on 23 Apr. We get into Shannon about 7 am, so that should be a good day for travel and see the Rock. We were even thinking about taking a side tour to Adare.
Hi We went to Cashel the first day of our 2006 trip.We landed in Shannon and drove without stopping and it took about 1 1/2 hours. It was before rushhour in Limerick so we did not have any problems getting thru the city.Make sure you print directions from http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/ This will help with first day driving. I thought starting our trip with ROC was just perfect.Having read The Lion of Ireland I could not believe I was standing there. We stayed at one of Michele's picks for B&B Joys Rockside in Cashel.
We went from Cashel to Ennis on a Monday morning last October. Left Cashel approx. 8:45 am went through Tipperary and Limerick and arrived in Ennis approx. 10:30 am or so. We , like Susan in the above post, didn't have any traffic problems in Limerick. WC
Shannon to Cashel is an easy drive as the other forum members have said.
A day trip from Shannon to Loop Head will take a good part of the day. If it is a nice day you might even take a picnic lunch and have it on the grass at Loop Head. It is a magical place.
If you just want a glimpse of the Cliffs of Moher and will not spend extensive time there you could include it in your trip to Loop Head. If you have other things you want to see in the Burren or vicinity of the cliffs, perhaps another day trip would be better.
