Westport and "The Quay"

I have noticed that there is an area of Westport called "The Quay", but I can't find out much about it.  What can you tell me about the area and should I find B & B lodging in "The Quay" or in Westport proper or does it matter?

Thanks

I have booked four nights this coming June at the Harbour Mill, in Westport Quay, so here's MY take...

The quay (pronounced 'KEY', or on rare occassion, 'KAY') is the dock/harbor area of Westport.  There are a number of pubs and shops there, and it is located just a bit over a mile from Westport Town Center, very near to Westport House.  Town Center is just that -- the center of Westport, whereas the Quay is on the outer fringe.  The majority of the shops, as well as Matt Malloy's and McGann's, are located in Town Center.  The Quay is on the bay.  Town Center is on the river.

You pick 'em ...biggrin biggrin

Thanks Bob.  It looks like it is a "win-win" situation.

It definately is a Win, Win.

You can walk down to the Quay, it is not that far, but is is down a long hill, which could be a pain if you are walking back to the town center after a couple of pints. <GRIN>
If you are looking for a great meal, I would highly recommend the Quay Cottage.

It has wonderful seafood and other fare. It's was the most expensive meal we had while in Ireland, but it was also the best meal we had !
Cheers !

Thanks for the help on the Quay and Westport.  Any suggestions on B & B Lodging in either location?

noshot9,

Try Boffin Lodge or Cillcoman Lodge. One is up a hill from the Quay and one is on the way to it.
